Huh? What? I can't hear you...

It's a WICKED loud amp! Traynor never stated what the power output of his amps was, but the YBA-1 is thought to be about 50 watts clean...can't play ours loud enough to get it overdriven. The YBA-1A is supposed to be even louder.

Mr. Pierce from Skull Island has had some experience with these babies...

those are basically a clone of a 50 watt marshall plexi, for a lot less $$$. a real sleeper amp for the tone hounds on a budget.

Traynor

I recapped mine, put in a Marshall tone stack and a Mercury Magnetics Plexi OT. It is a barnburner for sure.

Best Blues,
Cookie

Hey Big Cookie, do you know anything about the OEI O.T. as oposed to the Mercury Magnetics? I was wondering how those two trannies compare in terms of Plexi sounds.

OEI vs MM

I did a series of comparisons back when I started my amp line and MM won hands down. MM is all I use.

I've had two BassMasters. One of them came with a full set of Telefunken tubes. I paid $150 for one and $250 for the other WITH the 6 X 10" bass cab! I'm down to one now. You know how people patch channels together on amps like this with a lead going from the second input of channel one to the first input of channel two? What I do is to patch it like that with a Real Tube Stereo Reverb unit in the "middle" of the patch cord. That way I have controlable reverb. I run the amp into an EVM-12L speaker in a small closed back cabinet. It's the best sounding amp I own. There are mods for them for the tone stack or to get it more Marshall like, but I like mine as it is with good tubes and caps. Bang for the buck is off the scale!

So I got the amp, and had it plexified minus the trannies(keeping the Hammonds for now).
HOLY SMOKES!!!!
This amp is killer! I'll mostly be playing an Epi Explorer with a Duncan Custom in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck thru this amp. God, it sounds good.
All for under $400.

Yep, they're great!

I bought one of Paul (from Colorado) Honeycutt's Traynors, and like a fool I sold it to Ben O. Missed it so much I just bought another from tom grossheider. I have a single 15 cab I use for playing bass, and a 2x12 cab for playing guitar. It does both jobs with great tone and plenty of power!

I also have a really sweet Traynor Guitarmate YGM-3, which is their Deluxe Reverb-sized amp. Nothing but sweet (well, it snarls very well, too!).

Cheers, Tim

Welcome to Traynor World eh

Being a good Canadian kid, I own three Traynors: 71 ygm2 Guitarmate, 73 yrm1 Reverb Master, and 68 yba-1a. Love them all and always looking for more to buy. They are a breeze to work-on, built like the best, and sound killer. Congrats on your purchase....there is no looking back now -- you will forever be a Traynor fan.

A friend of mine had a YBA-1...probably still has it. I did a few bass gigs with that head and a couple 1-15 cabs...best bass tone I ever got. I knew guitar players liked 'em too...but I hope my friend (who is a great bassist btw) keeps his stock for bass. :D

Funny YBA-1A story

My first real amp was a Traynor YBA-1A in 1969 with the 6-10 bottom. One summer day, about noon on a Wednesday as i recall, I played my Rick 6 string (650?) through a Univox Fuzz. I put two blankets over the speaker enclosure and dimed everything. The police arrived about half an hour later and said they had complaints from 4 blocks away.

I had mine cranked thru a Marshall 4x12 yesterday. After I stopped playing and walked outside, I felt dizzy. I think it was from all of the sound pressure.

what kind of speakers? I played mine through g75t and really didn't like it...to sterile sounding....ended up uses a 3x12 garnet cab and a Traynor 4x10 with it I think it would just smoke through a Marshall with greenbacks.

Have you been to the Traynor Yahoo Site. Great forum with many Traynor experts to bounce ideas off or answer tech stuff.
