Will Fender ever reissue the 50's Tweed Deluxe?

Are there any plans to do this? It seems to me a lot of money could be made here because I think it's a highly desired sound.

Since this probably isn't going to happen in the near future, can anyone recommend a modern amp that gets a similar tone? I think Neil Young plays through one of these, and he's my favourite guitarist. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

There are plenty of Tweed deluxe kits available and lots of folks who are building tweed deluxes. If that's what you want you certainly could get a nice one.

Regardless, it would probably be a cheapo PCB contraption. Cheap speaker, cheap tubes, etc..... typical of what you expect from current production gear from a big mass marketer. If it were a PTP custom shop amp, it would be priced through the roof. Do you really want that? A tweed Deluxe would compete with their Pro Jr and Blues Jr models.

You can get PTP tweed Deluxe clones (and Double Deluxe) from the boutique guys, which would blow away anything from FMIC other than a true CS amp. You can even get tweed Deluxe kits from Mojo, build one yourself!

A reliable little bird has told me of a colaboration that will result in the production of some mighty fine, high quality Fender tweed amps and I would guess that the Deluxe is among them.

The Custom Shop has produced nothing that compares
and besides they "wave solder" from what I've read here in the Amp Forum.

With the exception of the PCB , it sounds like you just described the original Fender tweed amps.
They used the cheapest wood they could get away with using, the cheapest speaker, cheapest tubes, and the cheapest covering fabric they could find.

Fender Amps from the 1950's are some of the GREATEST Amps that were and will ever be built.....
and they were all wired by Housewives not mad scientists
on a quest for "grail tone".
I consider my own '59 Reissue to have an "ha" after the
"r" ...'cause that AIN'T American what they done to that Amp. It's a "goshdarn" crime they gave the storied name of Bassman away with such a "cavalier attitude".
I guess that's "corporate white collar philosophy"...

As I mentioned previously, expect a line of tweeds made the old fashioned way. I think if you inflate the price of one from the '50s you'll find them to be priced very fairly (but this is just a guess, I've not a clue what they will go for).

well lets see here...this isnt a knock on Victoria..rather ill share my first lesson in letting go of my notions that anything of quality must have a name brand logo (something that i really held onto for a long long time) and that kits were always radio shack type stuff...no knocks on anyone...

to expect a PTP deluxe at a 'fair price' from a large maker isnt sensible-they cant make money on it -too much time involved-when i see PTP stuff form say marshall reissues....well they must be made of gold...

i have no experience with a Vic double d-sounds like a great amp

but i do with Vic deluxe's-nice amps indeed, but $$$$, so pricey that the kit looked really affordable (even tho they are not cheap like a pro jr or blues jr-a bit more than twice the price of a new blues jr)

and after hearing a Mission 5E3 kit side by side -the mission blew away the vic -why-probably because it was using a a weber blue dog instead of the jenson-

i was so impressed and instantly smitten that i did someting i had no intention of ever doing-I built a kit amp-the whole deal took me about two days(16 hours ) this included building the entire chassis and 'finishing' the cab

it looks better than a vic because i did the poly shade aging

it sounds better because of bruces little mods and the components IMHO, including NOS tubes and rectifier

and it was less than half the price of a new vic, and still significantly less than a used one-(including the tools, a book on amps, which you dont need-just a soldering iron and meter and finishing stuff....)-and it was easy -paint by numbers almost)

and when i was through..i was very proud ...it sounds great ...easy to move...quality stuff....dead silent ....i no longer even think about putting on a vintage fender logo....
and it is a particualry good match to a tele-but with an LP its also fantastic

stan-is the double delux liek a low powered super-that is 2x12 in a tweed cab with a 5E3?

i agree that would be the stuff-in fact the larger cab would be great-i ran my 5E3 with a weber equippd extension cab and the sound got huge-but a larger cab would be even nicer im sure

bruce does a low powered super too-new kit and hes contemplating a JTM 45

-heard a prototype JTM sunday-much more of a rock sound than blues IMHO

-now thats a much larger and more sophisticated project-real amp with lots of components and apparently very sensitive to being properly 'dressed' (lenghts of lead wires etc) but man it sounded great too

That question crossed my mind too, but I think the DD diference is the quad of 6V6's.

No, I really can't. It is very exciting too that Marshall is offering 3 amps made the old fashion way (18w combo, 20w head and '67 100w).

i understand the PTP marshall reissue of the head is in the vicinty of $3200+

i love the idea of having these amps available, and i understand too that many dont have the time or desire or ability to build thier own amp (nor do i think i would undertake a complex build either for the above reasons)

-like hot rodding a guitar or car, there are so many factors which can subtley improve an amp that these high priced amps from major manufacturers begin to make less sense to me (why becuase i presume they are trading on thier name-rightly so-but not delivering a truly superior product)

...at this price level there are incrdeible amps out there like two rock, divided by 13, aiken, bocino which really may be a better value (but not the rock history icon) since they have in many cases taken original circuits and improved upon them....

i would be hard pressed to pay a premium price for a fender CS amp after seeing some of thier amps-one that come to mind was the two tone combo with a 10 and 12 " using the blues jr chassis, priced at what i beleived was an obscene price-my point -while many pay for dressed up things for the sake of style, many others presume that there is substance to the higher prices from major mfgrs... i dont presume to know the business end..just the consumer end from my little world...i do realize that any marshall or fender will have mass resale value over and above other names....but since i never sell anything

Nah, I wouldn't call the Double Deluxe a low power by
any means. I think I've played everything that's out there currently or that's highly collectable under 10K
and very proudly I'd take a Double Deluxe over them all.
Really the only well-known I haven't played through is the Trainwreck but I do know know someone less than
2 hours from me that has one. I've played through
plenty of AC-30's even the older non TB's and they sound great but they do run HOT.
The Double Deluxe is going to be The Standard for a Great Amplifier, that's it's destiny, when you hear it and
of course when you play through it you will be high on
life. It's only when you walk away from it that reality
falls back on your shoulders. No pedals needed, unless
you're a delay person, we all like a little delay every now
and then, but that's about it.
I could not find a bad tone. It's made my friend Al B. a
"recluse". He doesn't even cuss about his ex-wife anymore. His #1 is a Korean Squire Strat, he's got a real
nice L.P.Special thats TV Yellow from the early 90's too,

I will be performing in your neck of the woods on June 18 and 19th on the Mt. Washington cruise ship for Biker Week up in Laconia and I would love to hook up with you for a beer and to take that Double Deluxe amp for a test ride on the gig...you can sit in too..its with my old band Boston Baked Blues and by the name you can guess what kind of gig it is..... This is a grueling gig that we usually do 24 sets in 2 days!! Hey we are also looking for PA rental and soundguy that is from N.H....do you know anybody looking for a couple days work ? Really easy soundman gig..just set it up..set the levels for four mics and then go party , look at the bikes and the women ....let me know bro...
