Vox AC4TV or Champ 600

I am real close to pulling the plug on one of these. I want to use it for recording mainly and practicing secondly. I don't want to sink any money on tubes, speakers, mods right away - but I'm not adverse to the idea down the road. Of course if I could find either used for a better price than new that might sway me in either direction.

Looking for some pros and cons.

Pull the plug on the 600 but pull the trigger on the 4.

the attenuator feature would make the Vox a better choice for me ...

Based on that, I'd say the Vox.

The 2 amps aren't much alike, BTW. You should really try to play both to see which one has the specific TONE you're looking for.

I've tried both and IMO the AC4TV combo sounds much better. Nice clean and nice breakup. However, even at the 1/4 W setting it's too loud for breakup at home volume, at least with single coils.

I'm inclined to agree here. I've owned a C600 and have yet to play an AC4. It does seem to me that these are voiced differently. For me personally, I would go with the AC4 simply because of the larger speaker. To be honest, I wish companies would stop making amps with speakers less than 8in. If it were up to me, 8in speakers would be banned, but that's just me. I do like the C600 a good bit and wish I hadn't sold mine. It really sounded great through a 10in speaker.

You're obviously looking for a tube amp, but for recording and practicing, don't overlook the Vox Pathfinder 15R. I'm a huge advocate of these great SS amps. Hell, I've even gigged mine.

I own one and a 1/4 watt breaks up at a very manageable volume.

i have a champion 600 but i still say go for the vox, because it will be much more versatile. I recon it is well worth the price increase over the champion.

I cant say enough good things about my Vox AC4TV I have the head and 1x12cab. It is awesome I havent played the combo with the 10" but if it sounds 1/100 as good as the head/cab get it. But I am a big promoter of the head/cab.

i only played the AC4TV. i love it. i am not impressed easily, and am currently using a vox ac50. this amp is the best amp below 5 watts i have tried.

but then again tone is subjective. try both, bring your pedals and your guitar. see what works for you.

Manageable yes, but a bit loud for apartment use.

I have the AC4tv combo and it sounds pretty good. Execellent dirty sounds, far and away better than the champ 600 I have played. Mine doesn't seem to take pedals very well when you have it up over half way on the volume knob. A boost definitely works well though, other than that it is more of just a plug and play kind of amp in my opinion.
