Low-voltage Fenders
I have heard a lot of different opinions about the blackface Fender "35-watt" amps, such as the Tremolux, Bandmaster, and Pro and Vibrolux Reverb combos. I guess the consensus is that the non-reverb amps don't have enough gain, and that extra gain stage in the reverb amps make all the difference in the world. Can anyone comment on this? From what I've read, the characteristics of these amps (low-voltage power supply, undersized output tranny) sounds like the recipe for good tone.
thanks, Lucas |

i don't know about there not being enough gain but yeah, there is another gain stage in the 'verb models. but it's actually there because you lose some gain when the signal runs through the 'verb circuit. so in a perfect world, it was actually designed to be equal - if that makes sense. it's not equal though. the 'verb models to break up a little sooner. but, i personally love the non'verb models. i have a tremolux and it's got to be one of the best amps ever made. money has been tight and i've thought of everything i can sell - except the tremolx. it's not even an option. and if you were to need more gain you could put a 12ax7 in the pi spot rather than a 12at7. this is if jumpering the channels doesn't give you enough (which you can't really do on the 'verb models). great amps.

It is the less gain and no reverb that makes me love em
I am not that fond of BF Reverb amps, the verb steals from the organic voice of the circuit and robs it of a sweetness that can only be found in non verb amps. Just my opinion and generally the opinion of those that buy my amps.
