Fender Amp Jensen vs Eminence

I play an American Tele with Joe Barden's and Glendale knobs (THAT's where the tone is...)

I also play a Fender Blues Reissue, that has a not-so-great tone, ice-pickey tone - and I mean it in the truest way. I've had it for a while now and I've decided I can't live with it.

I am wondering if anybody thinks I can save this amp with some new tubes and speaker (it's all stock right now) or if I should just save up for a new amp. Also, if people DO think I can save it, I have been looking at Jensen Vintage Alnico speakers (40 watts, to match the amp's wattage), but a very educated gearhead I know recommended Eminence's Red, White, and Blues (120 watts)

Is it better to get a speaker that can handle much more wattage than the amp can dish out? Also, keep in mind I play jazz and rock and whatever else I find fun, and typically like a really loose, vintage, organic, honest tone.

Did a gig about four or five months ago with a guy that had a BR with a Cannabis Rex speaker. Best Blues Reissue I ever heard; said he had about three of them, and he was planning to put C-Rexs in the others, too.
I used a stock BR a while back in a backline at a festival, it was really harsh. Speaker swap helps. I think the stock speaker is too hi-fi, and it's reproducing all the rough edges of the design too well. Needs a mellow, dark speaker.

a 40W speaker might be a little short for a 40w amp. But I heard a vintage 1959 jensen P12N lately that was wonderful.

As for using a 120W or a speaker in the blues deluxe: not a problem at all. So many users seem really happy about the red white and blues or the cannabis rex in 40w amps. Both definitly should get rid of the harsness you hear
