New Amp Time
I'm pretty sure of what I'm looking for this time out. Current amp inventory: Supro Model 24 (clone), a Fender Deluxe (Victoria 20012) and an Emery SuperBaby. Guitar mainstays are 52 RI Tele, CS Custom Classic Tele and 69 SG.
I'm all but positive I need a Allen Sweet Spot to scratch that itch. Anybody want to talk about those amps? Like 'em, hate em'? "Whatever you do, when you order one, order it this way (transformer selections, extra output jack, etc.)," type hints? Also, I tripped over the Allen Class Act, which I can't find on their own website anyhere? Can anybody tell me about the 7 watt Allen Class Act? I don't think that's what I'm after - but YOU might be????????????????? |

I built one of the first V-18s (now the Sweet Spot). It's a hyper tweaked Princeton Reverb.
If you like '60s Fender tone but wish they had that little something extra you need an Allen. Think about it for a moment. Most of the classic BF Fenders were designed in '63 and '64. If everything from '64 was perfect for '09 we'd still be driving 6000 pound Cadillacs with little tail fins. At least a '64 Caddy works better than the "sound system" the Beatles used at Shea! |

I built a V-18 first. Liked it so much, I also have a Sweet Spot. Actually I gave the Sweet Spot to one of my sons. It wasn't too bad building it. It took pretty much one full day to build it. I took my time and dressed all the wires just so. Actually I enjoy building Allen kits.
I really dig the Princeton sound and with a 12" speaker. With a little bit extra (18 W), it's like a Princeton that goes to "11" in my book. The RAW knob really helps to boost the volume into a very fat and crunchy driving tone. Can you tell that I like it? Hope you love yours too. (when you get it) |
