Warranty worth $75? Super Champ XD
Hi, I'm new here. I just bought a Squier CV Tele and I'm planning to add an amp to go with it. I have a line on a very good price ($325 shipped) for a new Super Champ XD, but I am considering saving a few dollars with a used (a few months old) one that comes with the footswitch. Is the warranty plus footswitch worth saving $75? Unfortunately, the owner is the 2nd owner so the warranty is not transferable. Thanks for any advice. The Squier is my 1st electric.

I'd get the warranty. You're already saving $75 on the new one. If it was an old handwired Fender, wouldn't matter, but with all those fancy effects, I'd be more comfortable with a warranty. The used one should be about $200 from what I've seen used in big cities. You could offer that and see what happens.
Classic Fenders and other vintage tube amps are worth fixing, but I wouldn't want to buy someone's used digital effects, too much to go wrong in an amp with no real track record. They are good sounding little amps. |

Wow, those are pretty good prices you're quoting. I guess that Fender amp prices are fading a bit with the economy and the advent of the Fender "Instant Rebate." I paid $270 plus shipping for a used Super Champ XD without the footswitch a couple of months ago. I felt that buying used was okay because this not the kind of amp that's likely to be abused. Still, if I could have bought a brand new one for $325 shipped, I definitely would have gone that route.

Thanks for the responses...your responses definitely make me lean toward buying new w/ warranty. I heard back from the seller of the used amp and unfortunately he does not have the required paperwork to transfer the warranty.

from what I've heard, these are disposable amps ... Fender just replaces defective units that are under warranty ... i suppose a good tech could work on them, but at 2-3 hours of bench time, you are exceeding the cost to manufacturer a new one ...
