Any Dr Z Mazerati Owners?
I've got a Maz Jr 2-10 w/reverb that I totally enjoy and I'm thinking of stepping up to a 2-12 Mazerati... Can anyone tell me the tonal difference beside the boost in wattage. thanks.

Mazerati
Well . . .
The Mazerati does not have a master volume like your Maz 18 Jr., so you'll have to turn it up to get the natural overdrive. It also does not have the separate bass, middle & treble controls, and of course, no cut control either - just volume & tone. Also No Reverb on the Mazerati. If you like the controls of your Maz 18 Jr., then perhaps what you're looking for is the Maz 38 Sr - the bigger version of the Jr. It has the same controls and more tubes (than your Maz 18 Jr.). The Mazerati is basically a beefed up Carmen Ghia (I own both) with more headroom and a BIG BIG when turned up (as opposed to the Ghia's BIG sound). Hope this helps. tomtheguitarguy |

While the Mazerati does not have all of the tone shaping control of a Maz Jr. It does not need it. Surprisingly the single tone control works extremely well, especially with a tele. I've not found myself wishing it had separate tone controls. That's how well the Dr. has voiced it.
It has great chime and sparkle but is different than an AC30 tone wise. Complements a tele perfectly! IMHO. If you're looking to add some grit to your tone you do have to crank it but even at lower volume it is an extremely toneful amp. I used the Mazerati through a Z Best 2-12, a Dr. Z airbrake (for the small rooms), Boss CS-2, Fulltone FD 2, Boss Chorus, and Boss Rev 3 reverb / delay with great results. My only complaint is moving the 2-12 cab! I have a Dr. Z Z28 2-10 combo on its way. I'll report on that once it arrives and I've played a few gigs with it. |

Teleman, I couldn't agree with you more - I love my Mazerati and it's simple tone controls. I also play through a Z-Best 2x12, and by just using the Ghia head for smaller rooms and the Mazerati head for larger venues, I've not had a problem with getting a great sound from any of my teles or gretsches.
I was merely commenting, that if TenBender was happy w/ the tone controls on his Maz 18, then the Maz 38 would be his most "logical" step, though I prefer the Mazerati. tomtheguitarguy |

Love my 'rati. Killer amp. I also use a Z28 which is another killer Z creation. Awesome amps. Havent played with a Jr, but the 'Rati sounds amazing with everything from my Tele and Strat to (sorry guys) my favorite guitar a PRS CU22.
Got new SPeakers on the way as I have been using this through a 2x12 cab with Celestion 75's (ugg) so I have a Greenback and G12H30 coming, should be Bad!

Update in case of interest. G12M and G12H30 an awesome combination with the mazerati. Plenty of clean and warmth, nice woody overdrive.
