I've heard many stories about the EH 6v6s failing and taking the tranny with them. I haven't experienced it, so it might just be urban legend, but I've heard about it enough on the various amp boards and from my local music store that I was avoiding the EHs.
I have put a set of the JJ6v6s in my sfdr and I think they sound excellent in every respect--I'm very hard pressed to hear the difference between these and the RCAs that were in there before. The JJ tube has been torture testedby the famous "lord valve" and by the guys at the amp workshop, and they have all raved about how solidly it's built. I'm extremely impressed with the JJ and will be using it from now on |

I've used EHs and JJs
I sort of liked the tone of the EHs better. it's hard to describe the difference. I liked the JJs too, but the EHs sounded a little better to me.
I have never had and EH tube fail.

The JJ is FAR more solidly built and robust than the EH. I have personally seen the EH short out and take out resistors in the amp, because they have weak flimsy screen grids that melt. The problem is made worse because they have poor grid alignment leading to higher screen interception than the JJ. The JJ has very low screen interception.
Lard Valve stressed a JJ 6V6 WAY beyond it's maximum, up into 6L6 territory, and it didn't blow up. It's built like a tank. The EH is built like a Yugo. The EH is junk compared to the JJ. |
