Cornell Romany Plus Pro

I'm looking for another amp to complement my Victoria 35310. The Cornell Romany Plus Pro looks interesting:

It has four outputs:

A - 20 watts
B - 10 watts
C - 4 watts
D - 2 watts

Instead of output volume control, it uses a pre-amp volume control.

The wait period is 30-60 days. I hate to show my ignorance, but can a British-made amp use wall power?

Hi Larry,

I am proud owner of a Cornell Romany Plus. It is different from the Romany Plus Pro. Anyway I think I can answer some questions. I do not know much about the difference besides that mine has no Middle-Control.

I really like mine. It's character is very fenderish. I have a Tweed-Champ-Clone too and they sound related though not the same. I prefer the Cornell. I only play at home and only play Telecasters. I must admit though that the power-reduction-settings alter the tone. I never use it though. I only play it at the loudest setting because that's where it sounds best.

The Reverb is great. I always have it on. It is much better than the Reverb in Vox Amplifiers in example.

I play a Fender Tele 52 Reissue (the one on the left) and a 70's-Reissue Telecaster with Alder-Body. Both go great with the Cornell.

I must say though I sometimes wish it would break up more, but thats just me. Well is there anything else I could tell you? Oh yes I think the price is high. It is a great build and great quality. But in the end me for my part if I would buy an amplifier today I would get a cheaper one. The sound of a modified Hot Rod Deluxe can be pretty close to be honest with you and I think the Vox AC-15CC sounds great.

Simon, I was like crazy searching for some info on that same amp you have.
Do you by any chance have some recordings of it?

hi xjazzy, unfortunately i don't. but the sound is not so much different from a tweed champ. as far as i know it is a tweed champ. it reacts very sensitive to effects (and tube changes). for some time i played it with a fuzzface and a wahwah. i could produce a sound there that was very similar to the sound of billy gibbons on the first zztop record. it is very unforgiving though. i played a friends hot rod deluxe a few times with my telecaster and that made even bad playing sound good. the romany really does sound like a fender tweed champ with a 12inch and very sweet reverb. it is very heavy but has a nice small size. i never played it at full volume though. i am not so excited about the attenuator. i think the lowest setting makes the amp sound harsh. but you can use it at home at the normal setting. hope this helps.

If I understand it right, there is no volume control of the output stage. Instead, there is volume control of the pre-amp only. The idea is that there is better distortion (or better something) if there is no volume control of the output. How does this feel to you? Does the volume control seem noticeably different?

well, i didn't even know this. no, to me the volume control feels normal. I do not know too much about amp circuits anyway though. sorry.
