worth switching power tubes?
i have a torres super texan. it came with EL34s. i changed them out to kt66s in order to get more clean head room. i am trying to maximize the clean headroom, to get more of a chicken' pickin' clean tele tone.
i am considering changing out to 6L6 tubes and re-biasing. any opinions on how much more clean headroom i might gain? the amp is 35 watts and that won't change no matter which power tube i choose. i am fairly happy with how much cleaner i got using kt66s and new eminence copperhead speakers - but would love some more spank! think it's worth the cost and effort to change the power tubes to 6L6s? |
