Thoughts on best reverb amplifier

Gang,

I am working on an amplifier for a jazz guy who wants reverb. I have done this in the past and it has worked well. But I am wondering what people think is the best amplifier with built in reverb, new, old, custom?

Thanks in advance!
Gordon

'64 Ampeg Reverberocket
I do like the '60s Fender reverb amps(my all time favorite), but the Ampeg had a different sound and a little longer dwell. A little more "airiness" to them.

I just found a used one with the 3 knob reverb, and that reverb is the best reverb I have ever heard. Although this amp uses EL84 power tubes, it has a healthy does of Fender in its blood, and has to be cranked up pretty loud for any distortion. I'm sure it would be an excellent amp for a jazz player. Tone to die for, as they say.

How about a blackface Super Reverb?

I really like those GS12R Reverberockets as well.

I've heard different accounts of Wes' studio rig, BUT live
gigs I've been told The Man preferred Super Reverbs.
IF you are building this guy an amp for Jazz and he likes
Reverb I'd grab a Bandmaster TFL5005 and have J.D.Newell build a Combo Cab that would carry an ElectroVoice EV 15-L. That would be a "grail Amp" for
Jazz, Roots, Blues, AND Country. Say rough brown Tolex with the Wheat grillecloth .

just sold my '64 reverberocket

Sold it only because it was more practical for me to get a more powerful amp for gigs.

The Reverberocket had amazing reverb and tremolo. But I would think that it might be a little underpowered if playing live w/o a mic. I don't think it would stay clean at a decent volume.

Great amp for Magic Sam style stuff. Even got some cool deep 'verb for surf sound.

Wish I had your Ampeg. I had one and sold it in the 70's and kick myself all the time

The Ampeg is a great amp, I just had more use for something more pwerful and modern to back up my Pro Reverb. Plus, it was having technical issues here and there, and I just don't know enough to troubleshoot and fix electronics inside the amp.

The awful thing... the Ampeg disappeared while being shipped via UPS to the buyer. They have it on record as being scanned in when they picked it up from me, but nothing more than that... and it's been over a week. Luckily it was insured by the buyer who prepaid the shipping.

I'm going to risk all sorts of derision here;

by recommending a SS amp.

I love the sound of a good tube amp but for Jazz playing I plug my archtop into a Behringer GX 2x10. I was actually attracted to the amp by hearing one played from across the room. It has a very warm jazz tone and several varieties of reverb. Best of all it costs very little.
