Peavey Classic 30 upgrade (pics)
Took the plunge, prepped my Baby for upgrades!!
All this took @ 30 minutes. You can do it! Take your time, be careful, take notes what connectors go where. BTW, this is my first foray into an amp. Been researching for years, finally took the plunge. I ordered a Weber speaker thursday. I plan on doing this preamp circuit mod. ![]() Here's the photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't know how to get a clearer pic of the jumper. Gotta go to work, I will update as I progress. Enjoy! -Ray |

Okey dokey, it's saturday night and I have nothing better to do so bear with me.
In the 2nd group of photos above I was trying to show that a jumper between the boards had been cut out. I couldn't get the text to show. ?? Tonight I removed the Sheffield and installed the new Weber speaker. Here's some pics. here's the old & new speakers. The Peavey is @ 2 or 3x heavier than the Weber. ![]() here's the empty cab... ![]() here's my two thumbless helpers. they mean well! they're 15 weeks old and just too funny. They are rescue kittens, found at wal mart by a lady who was allergic too them. glad we found her! ![]() and heres the Weber all installed. I'm tempted to reassemble everything just to try it out! ![]() I took some pics of my other guitars, think I'll post them in the bad dog. later |

O.K.
Sitting around on Easter Sunday evening, I couldn't resist. I went ahead and removed the recommended items per The Blue Guitar site and from our own 11 Gauge on Fenderizing the input. Here's the removed items. This took all of 30 minutes. ![]() ![]() Here's a shot of where the input components went. ![]() and here's where the tone components were. ![]() There is a mod on the tube board also, but you get the idea. I'm going to get my new parts online, I figure there's no point in skimping now. If this all turns out well I may go with some advanced mods. Like foot switchable boost, adjustable bias. I'm getting pretty stoked. Hope ya'll had a great weekend! -Ray |

Hey Johnny
I'm doing the basic mods from the Blue Guitar site. tone stack mods, overdrive mod - suppose to make the od more usable Thinking about doing the adjustable bias mod also. Steve from Blue Guitar has the most in depth mod info for the Classic 30 I've found yet. linky |

got tired of waiting on parts from mouser, so I ordered .27$ worth of resistors from Weber's. 5.50$ with shipping....
Should be here this week. I'm getting excited.... I'm just doing the tone and overdrive mods, and a new speaker...It wasn't bad to start with, I just like molesting things! |

The 7 oz magnet makes it much lighter than the Sheffield that came in it. If I wind up not liking it I'll most likely get their Blue Dog next... |

Finally! Success!!!!!
Finished the project today.
It is a whole new animal! The boost channel now does more than just fizz...It is much better sounding across the tone range. I can turn the treble up with out making my ears bleed or the neighborhood dogs howling... And, best of all, I can actually hear what my teles should sound like! I am very happy with the mods. I will give a better report later, as I need to let the speaker break in and also differentiate the mod improvements vs the new speaker improvement. I'm gonna go play now. Woo hoo!!!! had a maloxx moment when I first powered up: The pilot light came on, then went off. I was disgusted, at first. I turned it off, and back on, now it's working great.......whew..... |
