Brit Voiced Speakers? Your Experiences?

I am contemplating a speaker swap on my cabinet that I use for my Blackheart Handsome Devil head ( 12" speaker cabinet). I currently have a Jensen ceramic 12N in there now. I was thinking of going in a differenent direction and putting a Brit voiced speaker in it to see where the tone takes me. Anyone out there had any luck with any " brit voiced " speakers?

I have a Warehouse Guitar Speakers "Veteran 30" that I am very happy with. That is about as British voiced as it gets. They are no longer the incredible bargain they once were as they now cost $65 apiece. But they are still cheap compared to the Celestion Vintage 30 that they are modelled after. Actually I prefer the tone of the WGS speaker over the Celestion.

You do not say whether your cabinet is sealed or open back. But for the ultimate British tone you want a 1x12 sealed cabinet.

I have played a MojoTone BV30 in my Savage Glas for the past five years. I have tried other speakers inthe same amp, including Jensen, Celestion and vintage JBL. The BV30 has been a hands-down winner for tone, clarity, smoothness, depth, range, and overall mojo.

I think the Celestion G12H30 Anniversary is one of The Great Rock Guitar Speakers, and it sounds good with just about anything driving it.

It depends what British sound you think is the ultimate. Some think it is the open back Bean or Bluesbreaker sound. Green backs and G12-65s are my favorite Celestions and there are great examples of either speaker working well with both open and closed cabs.

Weber Blue Dog will push things in a more Voxy direction, great speaker in a blues junior, I could imagine it working well with the Epi 5-watter, don't know if the Handsome Devil could use a little sparkle as well.

As a fellow Handsome Devil owner, I'd fully recommend a G12M or G12H or clone.

The amp itself is heavily in the marshall late 60's to mid 70's camp, sound wise. If you want more of an 80's sound, go with he V30. Emi makes plenty of greater brit voiced speakers as well. Note that the G12M is less efficient than the 12H, so if you want od at home, the M may be better for you.

The blue dog sounds great with the amp also, but do not expect it to be the least bit voxy, the circuit just isnt built for that sound.

I use mine with a EV12L in a closed back, but will probably swap either my blue or the celestion into that cab tomorrow.

I use british voiced speakers in all my Tweeds.

There you go! I use both a Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell in my 5E3 and probably prefer the Silver Bell over the Blue Dog. Like the mids better in it.

Whilst Celestions are undoubtedly British voiced, there are a number of different accents.
The Alnico Blue is not what would now be recognized as a classic British rock sound (early 60s pop maybe).
The Vintage30 is supposed to be a high power version of the Blue, but of course it's not, it's rather harsh and belongs in a closed back cab.
The G12M-25 and the G12T-75 sound very similar. Classic 80s rock. The Heritage G12M-20 sounds a bit different, more vintage, also SRV.
The G12H-30 and the Heritage G12H-30 LR sound different, 85Hz and 55Hz respectively. Classic 70s and late 60s rock. This is the 'Jimi' speaker.
There is supposed to be some difference between 8 and 16 ohm versions.
There is some love and hate for the lightweight G12 Century Vintage.
There are some sound samples on http://professional.celestion.com/gu...tone/index.asp

I have nothing against American made speakers, just don't get to hear many, and the ones I have been confronted with have probably not been the best examples of the craft.

Brit voiced speakers have a bit of a upper midrange spike, which you may or maynot want. i like to mix speakers, right now i have two alnico webers in my cab one american one british

I recently installed Eminence Redcoat Series speakers in my Fender amps: a Ramrod in my Pro Junior and a Tonespotter in my Blues Junior. I couldn't be happier.

Both Redcoat Series speakers offered slightly different tonal qualities than the more popular Patriot Series' Ragin' Cajun and Cannabis Rex speakers, respectively.

The Ramrod offers "warm" MIDS, compared to the Ragin' Cajun's "crisp" MIDS, while the Tonespotter offers "aggressive" MIDS, compared to the CRex's "moderate" MIDS. In either case, the amps now have fat/chunky LOWS and warm MIDS - a very fair trade-off compared to their Patriot Series counterparts!
