Superchamp XD Pricing

I played a SuperchampXd before Christmas at GC and thought it was a lot of amp for under $300. I'm not a fan of DSP, but the amp had a very legit tube sound, and about half of the presets were decent to very good.(They were on sale for $279.) Now that I have the cash to get one , I see they are going for $400. At $400, this little amp is no longer a sleeper, to me it's just another "almost pro quality amp."

On the plus side, the price increase on the PRRI put it so far out of my reach, that I don't have to worry about "accidentally" buying one. I probably should have grabbed the SCXD at $279, but at $400, I'll pass.

Wow! $400 huh. I bought mine new around July of '08 for $239 out the door. Can't believe they are 4 bills now... Nice amp but wow...

Bad strategy for Fender. I was thinking of getting one, but now I'll probably go for a Ceriatone 5E3 kit. $400 is too much for something like that.

I agree that $400 is too much. That's why I just bought mine on eBay for $280. Yes, it's used, but you'd never know it. There are usually plenty of them on eBay, and I'd bet that most of them are barely used and not abused. They're probably bedroom amps in most cases. Get one. You won't regret it.

$400. I'll bet that sales curve looks like a ski jump...

+1. What Charlie says is correct; they are seeming to pop up quite regularly for between $250-$300 in mint condition on ebay and other "for sale" sites.

I bought a floor model, during a christmas sale at GC and paid under $250. That price hike is crazy. I can see a $10-20 hike, but Fender has gone nuts.

$400 isn't a deal at all and in my opinion is overpriced for what you get. If you want good Fender modeling you can pick up a Cyber-Deluxe or Cyber-Champ for way less (almost 1/2 for a Cyber-Champ) and they're gig-loud with a nice Celestion G12T speaker and compete on clean tones and beat the SCXD higher gain tones. The Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 isn't that much more and the modeling is way more versitile than the SCXD and is also giggable. A used Peavey Classic 30 is also in that price range if you want straight up tubes. A cool affordable bedroom amp at the old price, an overpriced underfeatured amp at the new price...

Your local GC may still have some at a lower price. I got mine last week at GC in Akron, OH for $319 in the box. If that wasn't available, I would definitely go the eBay route. I can't say enough good things about the amp.

Fender has truly lost it. Those amps *were* a pretty good deal.

And $700 for a Blues Junior now. Jeez...

Maybe the price hike will bring these amps into cork-sniffer territory.

But yeah, I just got the new Musician's Friend catalog and was shocked at the Fender prices, but its sorta good news for us who might be selling older amps and gut-tars.

Paid $399 for my Palomino V32. SCXD is no longer a bargain over $300. Cyber Champ or Deluxe used is a getter route for Fender modelling.
