Chaining my HRD and VC?

Howdy, folks,
I posted this question on the Fender Forum , as well.
I want to run both my VC and HRD together. I know I can buy more gear that will allow me to accomplish this, but am really interested in your thoughts on alternatives #4&5 below. Oh, and I DON'T want to fry my amps. What do you think? Will #5 work for me? Your thoughts appreciated!

I think I have at least three reasonable options:

1. Buy a Y splitter. Signal goes from guitar to Y splitter to input 1 on each amp.
2. Buy expensive A/B/Y box.
3. Build inexpensive A/B/Y box.
4. Use the Preamp out of the HRD to chain amps: Guitar to HRD, HRD preamp out to input 1 of VC. I can't use my volume box now, so this might be a pain...
5. Jumper the channels. Guitar signal to input 1 of amp #1, input 2 of that amp to input 1 of amp #2. Can this work?

Thanks for your help!
Billy

#5 - a word - yes. well, maybe. you won't hurt anything by doing that. the only thing that could happen would be a ground loup. if that happens, then disconnect the shield of one end of the guitar cable you use to go from input 2 to input 1. if that doesn't take care of it then you might have to get an expensive aby box.

one thing, make sure both amps have properly connected three-prong grounded power cords before doing this.

Thanks, JDO

Should I use an unshielded [speaker] jumper cord between amps #1 and 2? Would that kill the ground loop?

don't do that. just get a guitar cord that you designate for this task. you might not even need to disconnect the ground on one end. that's only if you get a ground loop. but don't use a speaker cord.

WOW!

I gotta say, the HRD and VC sounded awesome together! I came home early this afternoon and tried both amps jumpered. Surprisingly, the VC -dimed- contributed alot more than I expected to filling out the sound of the HRD. Can't wait to add some slapback echo and a bit of compression next time.

By the way, no ground loop!

Thanks for the help!
