new Crate V series...
Hey all. I was looking into buying a crate V1512. Was wondering if anyone has any advice on this amp or another amp similar to it (15 watts, class A, 2 EL84 power tubes) in the same price range.

I have one and it sounds great. The reverb doesn't sound too good though... It's kind of "boingy". I put a Weber C12B in mine as well as some JJ el84'S. I have old Mullards in the preamp. Every mod I have done to this amp was done with parts I already had, otherwise, I'd go for a Celestion G12H30 and JJ tubes all around. With all these improvements, this amp really screams, but it likes to be cranked. It's not quite loud enough to play in a band with, but you might be able to get away with it. Plug it into a 4x12 cab and watcg out!
It sounds good at low volumes too, but it really shines at full tilt. All that being said, I may part with mine soon to fund something more late-night friendly like a POD or similar emulator. I have an Orange AD30TC 30 watt head that I can combine with my 4x12 or 1 1x12 for gigs and practice respectively. |
