Stop me! Help!

I need another amp like I need a javelin through the forehead but there it is, staring me in the face: a Peavey Windsor half-stack for $399, head and cab, free shipping this weekend.

I know, I know -- but I sold a 50-watt JCM 800 2x12 combo years ago, and I've been missing it ever since. Of course it was an unreliable dog of an amp (my experience ONLY -- other's will differ) but man, what a sound. I used it for edge-of-breakup stuff, not full-on grind. I mean, I'm really just a blues player.

So talk me out of this Peavey. Tell me it won't do what the JCM would. Tell me it's only for hard-rock grind. Stop me while my girlfriend is still talking to me. Help!

Awww... Just buy the damn thing. You know you want it. Big, loud, tubey goodness is calling you. And after all, it's only money, you can always get more of that.

As far as the amp, I played through one recently. It struck me as being very much like my old Peavey VTM 60 half stack. Not really any "clean" tone to speak of, but some great classic gain tones. Everything from rootsy clang and bang, to some creamy stuff, to AC/DC type grind, a great all around amp if you don't need anything really clean. Souded especially good with hummys, kind of shrill with singles, but some people like that.

LOUD AS HELL.

Never ask an addict to dissuade you from indulging in an addiction. Buy the amp, already!

don't do it. peavey's in general are terrible amps, and the windsor is among the worst. they explode regularly, everything you play thru it will come out sounding like roxette, and they've been known to eat children...

....ah, heck, i can't come up with a good enough lie. the windsor sounds like a cool amp...can't help ya. looks like you're going to have to buy it.
