V5 Gut Check

I just had to... Went to GC today and bought this "Little Cutie" Their price was $99.95 but got it for $89.99. Asked for price-match from Best Buy. Guy looked it up on the net and was surprised that B-B sold the things. Couldnt wait to get it home to open it up.

Here is what I found:::

Interesting power transformer. How does it sound?

Thanks for posting the pics!

Going to sit here and look it over for a few days. Didn't even plug it in. He**, it might not even work!

Feels nice and solid. Well built for what someone might think of as a toy. If I decide that I dont like it, or if it craps out on me, it will make a nice little cab for a small/portable kit amp.

First thing I see that I'm going to install is a jack for an external speaker cab.

Output Power: 5 W rms @ 5% THD into 8ohm
Input Imp: 700kohm
S.N. Ratio 42db
Gain: 58db all controls at 10
Tone: +/- 30db @ 10khz
Speaker: 1 x 10" 5 W 8ohm ceramic
Preamp: 1-12AX7A
Power: 1-EL84
Pwr Req: 90-132v 60hz 30 W
Weight: 19.2 lbs

Was some young kid playing one in the store at the time. Seems like it had good power but it sounded a little muddy even with the tone crancked all the way treble. Might have just been the store acoustics, plus the amp was burried among several other amps.
Low volume sounded great, nice and clean, quite sparkly and surprisingly full. Should be allright for what I'm going to use it for, home practice and giging with friends.
Need to get a schematic so I can figure out what's what.

I may have been a little premature in my exuberance -- the schemo isn't very readable as you zoom in. But it gives an idea of what's going on...

Yea. checked it out. Good info on a couple of mods. Wish the schem was a little better. I put up a post for a schem. Maybe someone has one they can PM me with or post it with link to to HQ jpg or pdf.

Thanx for directing me to site..........Dave
