1)IF you plugged the speaker output of the Pignose in to the input jack of the Fender, you are taking a chance. THat input section does not want to see the output of an amp.
2)IF the Pignose has a line out or a preamp out and that is what you are using, then you are probalby safe running that signal to the Fender. PEople have done what I described in the first 'if' scenario. Some amps have gone down in the process. ANd...yes, you will get some mighty distortion..until some amp dies. |

I don't think the Pignose would cause that much of a problem.
I played with a guy who ran the speaker out of a 50-Watt SF bassman into the guitar input of a Vox transistor amp (this was around '81). It sounded ... interesting. The Fender held up, at least it didn't blow up while we were playing together. Don't try this at home, kids. steven

sj, you may be correct about the PIgnose. WHen I first read the OP, what came to mind was a PIgnose 40. My bad on that.
RE: Fender Bassman 50 into a Vox SS. THe amp that would be at risk there would not be the FEnder. IT would be the Vox...the recepient of the output of the FEnder. Whatever.....one can do whatever one wants to do to their amps. I would not suggest running outputs of power amps in the preamp input of another. YMMV....but my amps will never be subjected to this 'experiment'. THere is a reason why line outs, directs and loops are built into amplifiers. |

Nah, the little battery operated Pignose. I actually got the idea from another thread here and figured what the hell. Only a 5 watt amp and man what a difference. Will this really hurt the Fender?

A Fender Champ is only a 5 watt amp, too. WHen I want to run the output of one of those into a larger amp, a power amp or directly to the board,; I build a line out off of the speaker leads. THis gives you the output of the amp but at a lower voltage so as tominimize the risk of doing damage to the second amp and to give a signal strenghth that does totally overpower the 'receiver' of the first amp's signal.
Folks have done things contrary to 'safe' principles forever with varying results. AS SJhusting noted, the sonic results of his friends rig were 'interesting'. I take that to mean that the sounds were very distorted and very tempermental. That little PIgnose might be the safest amp to use (or misuse, whichever your point of view) in this way. Small amps yield small output voltages...the smaller the voltage the safer the rig. IF you want my personal take on running the PIgnose in to the PRinceton 65?????? IF you like the results, go for it. What you are achieving is a high powered OD/boost situation. IMho, a good fuzz, OD or strong boost would be preferable. Everyone's mileage will vary.... |

My amp has a power in jack, should I be plugging it into that instead? Maybe I should download the instructions for this amp, I bought it used.

From the Pignose 7-100 instruction guide.
"Plug one end of a standard guitar connecting cord into the jack marked Preamp Out on the rear of the Pignose. Plug the other end into the instrument input jack on the other more powerful guitar amp. Connect your instrument to the Pignose input jack. Turn both amplifiers on."
