Probably gonna buy an older Peavey Classic 50 2x12

.....looking at it tomorrow or Saturday. Assuming all checks out well, I'll probably be bringing it home. In general I've liked the Classic series amps by Peavey, though I've never owned the 2x12 version. Price is right, 3 bills.

I think it's a '99 and the guy is the original owner; says he's never even changed the tubes, no mods ever done.

I'll probably use as-is at first assuming all is well. Down the road, any speaker and/or tube recommendations?

There's no footswitch. If I find a used one, what does it control, channel and reverb? Is there a PV footswitch that you can get that controls the boost function?

Thanks, -Eric

Cool!

I had the 2x12 version for a while, and I could never quite decide if I liked it, or the 4x10 version better. A buddy of mine had both, and hooked 'em up together and got a GREAT tone!

I'm sure a couple of Webers or Emi's would be nice in there. I'm not sure about tubes anymore, since it's been years since I've owned an EL84 amp.

Congratulations!

You definitely want to at least pop in some new power tubes.

I have no recommendations on speakers or tubes, but here's a free tip. Crank the Master and set levels with channel volume. This helps especially on the Clean channel. Those tubes like to be fed power...

For a speaker replacement for my Peavey Classic, I've pretty much decided on a pair of Goodsell RGM's. Maybe contact Ted Weber and see what he thinks?
