Deluxe Reverb score
Just snagged a SF DR from an estate sale. It is rather interesting because it has evidently been "Bandmastered". No rectifier, the opening is capped and the tubes are 6l6's. I haven't looked inside yet so I assume there will be diodes in there. There was a bandmaster schema in with the deluxe schema and the tube chart has been removed and kept in with the schematics. To boot, it does sound rather bandmasterish when cranked. Without having looked inside, I'm going to assume that is what was done. It wouldn't be difficult to have it put back to spec, but I'm going to float with it for now and see how it all pans out. It has some kind of speaker upgrade with an aluminum cone and big square honking magnet. The speaker codes are rather worn so I haven't determined what it is. It has the original worn cover and footswitch. The trem is rather clicky.
Just put in new power tubes and rebiased it. I've heard about deluxes with this mod and now having one is going to be interesting.

Was just wailing on it, (no one home but me). Liked what I heard, gonna leave it as is so far. Had to stop though, bloody dry split winter skin on fourth finger, gad! Like a painful hangnail.

Approx $660 in US coin. Pretty good, it would be worth more if it was in original state. Pics I haven't taken any yet. I plan on opening it up sometime to check the guts, then I will shoot.

Check out the ss rectifier installed. I don't know who modded this amp. Other pics in my gallery.

Sorry I can't help much.
But you're right, that speaker magnet is ginormous!

Very cool! That looks to be a '69 with the "-AMP" on the face plate under "DELUXE REVERB", but no drip edge metal trim. You can reference serial number to see what year here: http://www.superchamp.dk/papers/dati..._tube_amps.htm (repint of 20th cent. guitar article). If so, the cab should be pine which is desired.
No idea about that speaker but it looks pretty serious. If it sounds OK, keep it. If not, a Weber 12F150 is a great option (among many others). |

Cam, I have seen that speaker before. I'm searching the memory banks, trying to place it... Nothing so far, but if I come up with it, I'll post on it for sure.
I do have some Peavey speakers with square magnets, but I am sure they are not the ones I am thinking of... Peavey did do several 12" PA Speakers with square magnets in the late 70's and early 80's for sure. I suppose that could be one. I have one of mine in an extension cab, but the magnet is black. Makes a dandy guitar speaker. Sounds mighty righteous.

Thanks for the responses. Just rehearsed it
Just used it with my Jazz quartet wannabe group. I am very pleased with it as is. Looking forward to trying it with my country/rock dance band.
I will probably replace the power cord sooner than later as it appears to be nearing its time. The house I was rehearsing in had old two prong wiring with upgrade and I was getting ground buzz but the ground switch did get rid of the buzz. I figure it is around from 1969 too. I will have to solve the ticking tremolo too. I guess it is time to get rid of some gear now that I have this amp. I think my buddy is going to buy my Blues deluxe. But I shouldn't "count the chickens before they're hatched"

As to the ticking tremolo, first step is to check your tubes. 8 out of 10 times if I get that, a tube replacements in the trem preamp slot (V5) fixes it right up. 9 out 10 if I also look at v4 (I believe the two are linked a bit in the schematic but I may be off there) Anyway, check this handy reference: http://www.kcanostubes.com/content/n...sp?ArticleID=5 (not sure if this still applies but it should through V5).
Oh---replace that power cord NOW! Not something to trifle with. Take that from guy who has had a blue spark between his lip and a mic few times. |
