Please help! Anyone played a Victoria Trem of theTrem?
Hi there!
I need any info I can get about the Victoria Trem of the Trem! I'm about to buy one but I'm not sure... the other option is a Victorilux 3x10 (5881) or a Victoriette 2x10 (5881). I really want the real, raunchy tweed sound but I also want enough clean headroom and tight bass (and prefer reverb...). The Trem of the Trem has GREAT tremolo, is not too big and moveable, has the tweed sound, BUT perhaps not enough clean headroom (though more then the Tweed Deluxe??) and NO reverb... The other two amps have more clean headroom but are bigger (heavier!) and I think too much of a 'thin-blackface' sound... Please give your advice |

i've never played one but i spoke with Mark Baier at Victoria and he suggested going with the Regal II as he felt the Regal would get you about everything the Trem had to offer sound wise and then add a bunch of versitility to that. The trem in the Trem may be a different design but my guess is that if you ain't married to that sound up front you wouldn't miss it because the trem in the Regal is way nice. Bass is tight in the Regal and with only one 6l6 in it the headroom starts going south about halfway up. with both 6l6s in it things should be better than the Trem headroom wise but still not squeaky clean at volume would be my guess. The Regal doesnt weigh a ton either.

Well, IMHO, headroom should be considered in context with how loud you need you amp to play. If you by "raunchy tweed sound" mean a tweed that is pushed into overdrive, you've already extended its headroom, right? And if you want an amp that has plenty clean headroom for most live stages, you probably wont be able to get that overdriven sound, without being too loud, or using a pedal. IMO & IME tweeds are not really about headroom, but by using the volume controls on your guitar AND correct placement of your amp, even a champ can do good cleans and driven sounds.
BTW, I own a Vicky V'Lux and a 5112. The V'Lux is more of a brown-era amp IMO, more headroom than a tweed; sweet, but airy cleans (where the amp really shines); but doesn't sound as sweet as a tweed when driven. Maybe Mark will do another Bandmaster (35310) with reverb. That would be a very nice amp at most gigging volumes. |
