1968 Marshall Cab, what is it worth?

Hi i recently purchased a marshall bass lead cabinet (4x12) for £100, upon opening it i discovered 4 celestion greenbacks that date to 1968...it sounds brilliant, but is far too big for my needs.

Anyway i am going to sell it but just wondered how much i should be asking for it? any ideas/advice would be appreciated

In this economy it's hard to say, but if those are original speakers they're probably worth $200-300 each. The cabinet looks like it's in great shape, so I'd say $800-1000, maybe more. But people aren't spending now so you may not be able to get that. If I were you I'd hang on to it as an investment and just get an inexpensive 1x12 cabinet with a decent speaker for $100-200.

Nice score!! I'd say you should be able to turn that 100 quid into 4 or 500 quid with some patience. A pretty darn nice return. Put a couple hundred into a decent 1x12 with a nice speaker and pocket the difference.

The checkerboard grill and plastic hardware indicates its a '72 - '75. So, that is not a '68 cab. What are the inked codes on the speaker frames??

The inked datecode on the speaker is arranged month/year/day using alphanumerics....
A thru M for month but they skip I because ppl were confusing it with a 1
A thru Z for year starting in 1968 (this means your 2nd letter is an A for 68)
1 thru 31 for the day of the month

Thanks for the response, 64 Strat, here is a picture of the chassis:

i must have been smoking something when i dated them, or just got confused. so how old would these be? and how much would the cab be worth with them?

Looks like July 75 to me. Are all 4 speakers exactly the same date code or within 1 month of each other?

As far as valuation, thats always difficult. A previous poster mentioned 4-500 quid, which sounds about right to me.

Personally, I think you bought it cheap and if it were mine I would hang on to it. Even though these cabs are not the most highly sought after ones, they still sound really good with a proper amp driving them. Now, if you can come up with an equally low cost early 50w small box metal panel (circa '69) to go with it, you would have a classic Marshall plexi half stack without the plexi price.
