New 4 Watt Vox Practice Amp - AC4
I just saw this on HC out of NAMM. There is no way that I can not buy this when it comes out. It is just so cute
![]() Vox AC4TV Kind of glad I didn't drop the money on the AC15 Handwired just yet. I can try this out for the cost of boutique pedal. Enjoy, Jason |

.....also available as a head and cabinet. Wow. I wonder what the head will cost? That three way power attenuator looks like a great thing for late night practice or recording. Tone - Volume - Attenuator. Pretty cool.

Following their pricing on the AC15 Handwired, Here is what I figure.
Combo: $400 MSRP/$300 Street Head: $315 MSRP/$240 Street That is just using their past pricing strategy. Either way, we are talking pretty affordable. I am thinking the combo with a Celestion 10" Greenback. Could be a nice little bedroom rocker with that setup. I don't like that the external out is only 16 ohm. All of my cabs are 8, so I would have to run it with two of them. Nice setup though for practice. PRACTICE? Jason |

If only it was an EF86 preamp.

Don't care. PTP is great & all, but I've got zero problems with PCB construction. Now, I don't REPAIR AMPS, so I don't need to care. But as far as TONE is concerned, it's irrelevant in my experiences. And if it does actually street for $300, that's only $100 more than the Champion 600, with a 10" speaker. Plus, like the Champion, it's another amp that looks nice enough to leave sitting around the living room! If only they would make a special "Heritage" edition DA5... my life would be complete. PTP is still the coolest, tho!

For that price, they will sell a ton, should put the Valve Jr. & Blackheart to shame.
How about this one too? Vox Night Train ![]() The Night Train's appearance is striking, with a mirrored chrome finish and signature VOX diamond design that reveals the vacuum tube glow. Inside, a pair of EL84 tubes deliver remarkable power, as two 12AX7 tubes drive the preamp stage to provide additional power and clarity, for a harmonically rich tone, from chime-like clean to warm overdrive. A single switch lets users select between Pentode or Triode tube operation. In Pentode mode, Night Train delivers a full 15 Watts. In the Triode mode, the power is cut to 7.5 Watts. The Triode mode also relaxes the tube power stage, letting a smooth, mellow tube character shine through. The Night Train's front panel controls are clear and simple, offering traditional chicken head pointer knobs for Gain, Volume, Treble, Middle and Bass. The preamp section features a mode switch, offering both Bright and Thick options. The Bright mode accentuates the high-frequency components for a clean, articulate tone; the Thick setting bypasses the tone circuit to boost the gain and create a chunkier, heavier sound. In addition, legendary guitar amp builder Tony Bruno played an integral role in the voicing of this new amp. $800 MSRP |

?? Do you mean "the originals had trem, and that's too bad" or "it's too bad the new ones don't have trem like the originals?" 'Cuz I like what I see (especially the chrome 15W), except I don't see tremolo. I've already decided that my next amp will be a small tube amp with tremolo.

+1 on that. I like it. Doesn't lack a tone knob, so no mod kit needed, as a Blackheart Killer Ant would need. All I see it lacks is a line out, but that's hardly essential [to me]. Since no mod is needed; who cares if it's got a PC board? It's a bedroom amp for most consumers, I'd think.
Cool idea on this one. |

If I had the cash I would have plunked it down on a Blackheart or Epi Valve jr. already. I'm glad I don't have the money. Cuz, when I do, I'm going to look real hard at one of these.

That Night Train is pretty sweet also. I can understand why they didn't use the EF86 on the AC4, but not on the NT. I guess they are going head to head with the likes of the Tiny Terror and that camp, hence the 12AX7 front end. Regardless, it is pretty sweet. I don't see myself getting the Night Train, as I would just go for the AC15 Heritage head for a little more.
I am stuck on the little AC4 if is sounds good for sure though. Jason |

These are on the Sweetwater site for pre-order for $250. The cab is $169.
Man since moving into my apartment, I have wanted something like this pretty bad.

I pre-ordered one from Sweetwater. I was told verbally that it might be June until they get 'em, even thought the web site says they're expected in March.

Thanks for the link...
Well....seems like I am going to need one of these... The 12" cab sounded a little better to me...would probably go with the head and cab, but maybe not. Wonder if we'll be able to test them out in March or April. Have to wait until I get home so I can turn that video up a little...people at work have no sense of humor... |

sounds fantastic and much more full-bodied thru the cab. That said, I'd still opt for the combo, since it has a built-in speaker out. ;-)
