Tweed Blues Junior - Value?

Hey guys, I would like to get your opinions. Someone has put their 1997 TWEED Blues Junior up for sale. The guy is claiming its built in the USA and therefore makes it rare. He originally asked for $800 but has lowered his price to $650. Considering you can get a NOS Blues Jr from MusiciansFriend for $550, seems like the value of this 997 amp is out of line. Thoughts?

Value = whatever you can get someone to pay for something.

I see those often on CList here in Chicago, and the range is $350-$450 if the amp is cherry and you are at all patient. Perhaps a bit higher on eBay w/ shipping factored in.

Great amps though.

Personally, I think he's asking too much especially when you can buy new ones for less and IMO, sound better. The first batch have a green board (MIA) are a bit darker than the newer cream boards (MIM). I have a '97 in Black and it took me what seemed like forever to finally find a sound I really enjoy. I'm still on the list for the BillM mods to get more to a cream board sound.

Singin' Dave is right, "Value = whatever you can get someone to pay for something."

USA tweed Blues Juniors are not common, but certainly not rare. Worth a $50-$75 premium over a black tolex, maybe $100 if it's super-clean. But not more than a new one.

The US-built tweed BJrs were built in Lake Oswego and have LO-T-xxxxxx serial numbers. The tweed was unlacquered, light blonde, hard to keep clean. I have one (with all the mods, of course, and a Cannabis Rex); it's my favorite amp.

I agree with this. Does seem high for US prices. Shop around and see what you if you can do better. A modern one with good upgrades is cheaper and gives great tone.

Interesting bit of data! It's always fun to pick up a bit of loose info.

Do you know what the "B" prefix in a Blues Junior serial number indicates?

Thanks...

[Yes, I agree the delusional $800 seller needs a corrective beatdown.]

No matter what it is, ANYTHING in the world is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it, at the time the current owner has to sell it.

$650 for a used BJ is highway robbery. More like $350.

I would not characterize the amp as a "great" amp.

You (and others) are confusing price and value.

Rare? Do people even know what that means anymore? I dig the Made in USA labels as much as anyone, but in this case I can't imagine it making a BJr better or more valuable. Even if you just have to have it for the cool factor, $500 tops.

You be better with a bargain BJr, and adding some Billm mods, or a new speaker, or a couple fun pedals. Or get the new one with a 5-year warranty!

I have the Tweed Ltd that came after the USA, and before the NOS versions. Looks cool and sounds great.

Hi,

I just sold my 1996 Tweed Blues Junior on Ebay about a month ago. Winning price? $430.00 PLUS shipping (which I had stupidly put at $40). I spent about $70 to have it professionally packed and shipped via Fedex/Kinkos. So I cleared around $400.

Still a good deal since I bought it new for $299!
