Best versatile Fender amp for country/blues
I'm looking to sell my Mesa F-30 to get a Fender style amp that is better suited for cleans for rootsy country/blues. Think Ry Cooder or The Band. There's so much info on different Fender amps, it's overwhelming. I'll be playing small gigs - some outside. The set list will range from Loretta Lynne's "You Ain't Woman Enough" to Neil Young's "Powderfinger." I play a 62Hot Rod Strat and a Reverend with p-90s.
I'm open to any brand. |

Howdy,
I've done C&W/Rockabilly gigs with my red knob "The Twin" and it's proven to be quite useful. The clean tone is outstanding and for raunch, I simply activate the 1/4 power switch, turn it up and wail. These amps are quite affordable on the used market. Eggman |

I'd say Deluxe Reverb, too, but I'm with the other folks who say that given the sound you describe, a Tweed is probably in order.
If you get a Deluxe Reverb and an OCD, however, and set the OCD to the "HP" ("High Peak") setting, you can get a passable tweed distortion and all of the benefits of the blackface cleans. I guess it depends on which sound you'll use more. For me, the Deluxe plus OCD was the ticket. I'll end up getting a Fulldrive II and probably a Keeley Compressor, but I could make do with just the amp and this one pedal.

can you be a bit more specific about your needs?
how much headroom? switching channels? effect loops?

I'll chime in with another vote for the Deluxe Reverb.
Find a suitable pedal to do the dirty deed.

Deluxe Reverb.... It'll get you the country clean. then just experiment with dirt pedals to find the right one. My OCD is nice, but I like messing with other ones too. I have more dirt pedals than anything else right now and I'm always fooling with them!

A Blues Deluxe Reissue will do it as well. It sounds different from the Deluxe Reverb. Either will work, but with two different sounds.
