Fender Frontman Question

I would like to get my old Fender Frontman amp up and running again now that I have a Blues Jr. and Champion 600. Thought it would be cool to have my little solid state working too. If I hold the guitar patch chord right into the input of the amp it works but when I let go it loses the connection. I opened it up from the back today but all I could see was a small black box where the input jack goes into which is connected to a cream coloured circuit board. Is this an easy replacement or do I need to take it somewhere?

I presume you ruled out the cable?

Yes, yes, and I made sure the bolt at the front of input jack is tight. It was dropped on its face a few times with the cable still in it (years ago) so Im thinking the whole jack may need replacing?

I have the exact same problem. I changed the black box but now it does not work at all??? Bad soldering? Can this be dangerous? :)

The solders are probably cracked on the PCB. I had an old Crate that was doing the same. I reflowed the solders and problem disappeared.
