First Speaker Cabinet Build
I recently acquired a THD Univalve 15w Class A amp, and I only had a Marshall JCM800 4x12 cabinet to play thru. So I traded some stuff with my brother-in-law to get 2 Celestion 12s and decided instead of dropping the 200 bucks on a new cab, I would try my hand at woodworking.
I took the basic measurements that THD had on their website for their 2x12 cab, and went to see a good friend of mine who is a cabinet maker. He happened to have some 3/4" birch that he was dying to get rid of, so he not only gave me the wood I needed, but he cut it right there on the spot. (The whole sheet wouldn't have fit in my sedan I took the wood home and with some Tite-Bond glue, glued it together. After it had set, I cut the speaker holes and mounted them to the backside of the front panel. ![]() ![]() I grabbed my helper and started putting the hardware on. By FAR the best part of the build

I settled on the color of stain I wanted. (I figured this would be easier than Tolex) And I let it dry
![]() I put it all together and played thru it ![]() ![]() I gotta say... this thing sounds GREAT!!!!! I am gonna redo the grill, cause I am not thrilled with it. There are absolutely some flaws, but it is gonna get used, and moved around as this will be my main rig. I am happy with how it turned out, now I get to enjoy it!!!! |

Looks great!!
I love DIY builds.....even though I have limited DIY talent. Little guys just LOVE tools don't they!? I "helped" my father and grandfather fix up our unfinished basement. Steve |

Thanks guys!!!!
I, too, feel I have limited DIY talent, but practicing has built my confidence. I am not close to the talent that I have seen on this forum, but I am inspired by them to get close at least. My son got a tool set just so he could help daddy with projects. He is in the way a lot, but I absolutely love it. I, too have some pics/memories of me "helping" my dad do stuff on the car or around the house. |
