Anyone have a Crate V-50???

I am looking into picking up one of these amps and would love some current owners thoughts on this piece of gear. It appears to have channel switching and reverb for $199.00.

Any thoughts??

not impressed...

our steel/slide guy has a deal with crate and he's had to send 3 of them back -- the lead channel quits working

we're talking even his b rig backup that mainly just sits around...same problem with it! he hardly uses it or hauls it anywhere...

they're just not sturdy at all...

there's a lot of guys buying those cheap crates just because they are cheap tube amps..... if a guy has the electronics know how to replace PCB mounted components and do all sorts of electrical mods, etc.. maybe the amp can be salvaged...but out of the box they sound like big fat turds. (in my humble opinion...which i firmly believe to be accurate in this case). i bought one, and tried to like it... i really tried... but i never could warm up to the thing. the reverb is a joke, and the amp is very bass heavy sounding.... it has no special qualities at all. i posted it for sale on craigslist actually got my money back out of it... it sold during a time when MF had stopped shipping.. i think people were thinking the well had dried up. i consider myself very lucky to have been able to unload the amp for no loss in $$. i think if you were to go to a store and play through the crates amps, then play thru say a fender blues junior, pro junior or even a champion 600, a vox AC-15, or a blackheart, or anything else, you would immediately see that the crates just don't have it, comparatively.

i bought the V50 ... no problems yet, but i don't abuse it and if i was making money on the road i would probably get something better. but for $200 as another owner said it's 80% of a $700 Hot Rod Deluxe... also W/ free shipping and a 5 year warranty GO FOR IT !!!

Does it have a nice clean sound? Is the overdrive smooth or buzzy? Unfortunately none to try local so any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I have had to use the Crate warranty on another amp and their customer service is the best. In my experience, Behringer and Crate have the BEST customer service going.

the clean channel is very good. most reviewers don't like the drive channel and use a pedal in front of the clean for OD.
