Silverface Deluxe Reverb prices??

I'm looking for a SDR and I'm wondering what the going "fair" price would be.

I've been looking on Ebay, VG magazine dealers and different online classifieds and they seem to be all over the board price wise...

What is a reasonable price for one in decent shape?

with original speaker, without original speaker, with or without the pull/boost etc.

I bought one a year ago....

Mint 1976. Paid $600 and put about $250 in a cap job, black face update, and NOS tubes.

I see 70's SFDR's range from $550 to $900. Depending on condition and whether they have had the caps re-done. The older one's seem to be a little more expensive.

If nothing has been done to the amp I would recommend having a tech go over it... it will probably need new a cap job.

BTW, an excellent amp choice. I love mine.

I just paid $750 for a '69 at a store in Boston. It has one or two small holes in the cloth and the faceplate has its share of scratches, but it sounds heavenly.

i just paid.................

I just paid 700 for a very clean late 70's with the pull/boost.complete with the original footswitch. Its getting a new speaker(original worked, but you gotta upgrade it to bring the amp to life) & I'm having it retubed, although that was more for peace of mind and to get a fresh starting point with a new amp. Which actually brings up a question that I have .What does a cap job do?Does it improve tone? Is it just preventive maintenence?Does it make a big improvement or a marginal one?
I don't know if I overpaid or if I got a deal.from the looks of the other posts it looks like I did alright.
