Small Narrow Panel Deluxe Vs Larger Cab
Does anyone out there know what the sonic differences are between the smaller version of the narrow panel deluxe that was released on 1955 and the larger one that came after? What is the difference in cab sizes? Does it play a role in the sonic structure of the amp? When did Fender change the to the larger panel. I've heard that it was mid-late 55. Has anyone ever A/Bd them? I'm looking to buy one or the other so if anyone out there has one they'd like to sell let me know.

Yeah, I have both versions. The smaller cab is the same size as the tweed 5F2 Princeton, (except of course it has a 12). IMHO, the smaller cab amp sounds better to me, but there are too many other variables to say how much is the cab. Never really tried to pin down the difference.
The small cab is considerably more of a rare find, as I think it was only done in '55. GE Smith wanted to buy mine and I've been offered $3K for it from a guy in Nashville, so I'd say if you can find the small cab, get it. You can find the large cabs much easier. |
