Super Reverb Preamp Tube Question

Which preamp tube in a Fender Super Reverb is for the 2nd channel ( reverb channel ) gain?

Please count the tubes starting from the furthest away from the power tubes.

( For example, I know in a Deluxe Reverb, the 2nd preamp tube in for the gain in the 2nd channel. )

Is it the same in a Super Reverb?

Thanks and much appreciated!

Yes. It's known in tech vernacular as "V2". That's your main preamp tube for the vibrato channel. But the tubes in the reverb circuit, especially V4, are critical as well as that side has an extra gain stage to make up for loss in the reverb system.

But V2 will have the most tonal effect. Try different 12AX7's, 5751's (slightly lower gain), or 12AY7 or 12AU7's for really low-gain and more headroom. You can do the same thing in your Deluxe.

If you want to INCREASE gain a little, remove V1 from its socket and leave it out. Your "normal" channel won't work but you'll get a tad more gain. (OTOH, some players prefer the normal channel and use effects for reverb and/or vibrato - they like the rounder, more mid-heavy lower-gain tone.)

Remove the V1? Wow, I have never ever heard of doing that before. Can you do that for all two channel Fender amplifiers, such as the Super, the Pro, the Vibrosonic, Virbrolux, the Twin etc?

Curiously yours,
Ward

yup

you can pull out V1 for more something on the vibrato channel.
You can unhook one of the four speakers for 2.6(?) Ohms and it'll sound different
