the original Crate

I remember how I once as a young punk tried out the original wooden SS Crate.
Sounded quite good. I think...
Now I have the chance to buy what apparently is a remake of this Crate
from 2003. Never heard of this "Limited Edition" model made
with a 5 watt all-tube amp inside.
Only 50 or so made, originally for a competition.
What do you think? Should I jump on it?
I get no chance to hear it first - it's a mail-order thing.
Hope it complements my Vibrochamp...

meh, I reckon you're just feeling nostalgic.

I don't think I'd personally buy one even if it was a $5 garage sale item!
but, hey - if you dig it then why not.. ya know?
diff'rent stroke for diff'rent folks!

For me it depends on how much they are selling for. The celestion speaker alone is worth more than $5 so to say its not even worth $5 doesn't make any sense. I'm also curious which tubes it uses, any specs on it? I own a vibro champ, a kalamazoo model 2 and a Silvertone, all three are about 5 watts and I love all three of them.

My first amp was a Crate about like that one, in the early 80s. There was no less-desirable amp made at that time. I hated it. But it was cheap.

Yeah jimibryant, of course I´m just nostalgic.
This little Crate seem to evoce pretty strong feelings
Now, this is as mentioned not the ss but a totally different animal
- 5 watt all-tube with a strange optional (op-amp?) gain before the first 12ax7.
Then there´s one more 12ax7 and one el84.
I dunno... might sound great.
But - too expensive, them germans:

Some may bash me for this but I think I would be hesitant on any Crate stuff. Some of their earlier stuff was good but I sure have seen a lot of junked crates at the local music store that they have given me for parts. (Handles, Corners, Knobs ect.
