60's superverb head for $100
Is this something I should jump on? Even if it means fixing it and selling it for a ridiculous amount of money? How do I convince my wife she should let me buy this?

What is a Superverb? Is this actually a Super Reverb in a head cab? If so, jump on it and restore it.

I'm thinking the guy selling it has no stinkin' idea what it is, and got the name wrong too. There aren't any 60-watt Fender tube heads with reverb from the 60s, obviously...
Cheers, Tim

This is the actual ad:
"Unsure of the year, '60s Fender Superverb Tube Amp head, 60 watt. Good condition, good tone, needs cosmetic and some cleaning. Still works well. $100"

just called the number, turns out the guy isn't in town till thursday. says he's had lots of calls on the fender so far. :-)
the CL ad mentioned 60w tube amp, also had some vintage Kustom heads for sale.

hmmm ... nothing remotely like that in the Fender Field Guide. nobody on this thread has heard of such a thing either. my fear would be that the seller may be either ignorant or unscrupulous. $100 for a '60s Fender that "still works well" just sounds too good to be true. but it may still be a decent amp -- i would want to examine it carefully, get serial number etc. before pulling the trigger.

I'm thinking it's probably a red-knob Super 60 head, made between 1988-92.
Folks often think their old stuff is actually REALLY OLD stuff... Cheers, Tim

i was thinking the same thing. that's the only one remotely close. looks like a pretty decent amp, tho i've never been a red-knob fan myself.

I saw that ad this morning too and almost sent a note. I just don't know what I'd do with another amp. But the ad did read "60's Fender Superverb head". It's probably gone by now.

Just to add to the confusion, I talked with the seller again this afternoon. They're coming back to AZ tomorrow, they say that interest in the amp has driven the price up to at least $300. THEN more details emerged -- specifically that the thing has an EL34 based power amp, and 12AX7's in the preamp. SO yeah, there's really no way I can think of that this is a fender of any sort. Maybe an old Elk or other MIJ clone, doctored up to look like a real fender? I'm tempted to go take a look just to settle it, but 'if it sounds too good to be true'...
