Practice Amp???

Hey there ho there!!!! I normally play a DR Z Maz JR...however i'm looking for a good, smaller footprint, practice amp.Something that is a lil bit more portable. I was looking at the voxad30vt, i like the adjustable wattage feature. Any suggestions or feedback???

Pignose G40V. The Blues Junior serves me as not only a gigging amp, but a good practice amp, too.

Check out the amp section--same people as here and focused on amps. That said, my son has a ad30 and loves it. Its not too big or too small. Sounds pretty good too!

Pignose 7-100, the definition of portability.

Bad Cat

If you like the sound of your MAZ I recommend the Bad Cat Mini Cat. They are tiny, extremely portable and sound great. There are two versions, the original with a 10" jensen and the mini II with a 12". I have the original and I love it. You can get them for around 350-500 used.

I have the Vox AD30vt and love it for practice. It models 11 different amps and sounds fine.Dont get the AD15Vt, pay a little more and get the AD30Vt so you can adjust the wattage to the speaker, the AD15VT dosent have this feature.

microcube? you can essentially get any sound out of those, and they're cheap.

but there's no cooler practice amp than a champ.

Your initial choice is pretty good actually - that Vox series gives you serious value for money

Because you can get real dirty tones at bedroom levels, it's ideal for practising. (Clean sound isn't a problem with most amps at low volume levels).

The Vox VR30 is another great practice amp with enough power for smaller gigs.

There is also the Roland Cube to consider, especially the 60 (I've got one). The noise that thing makes is unreal for a practice amp.

In terms of TONE, I think the Vox AD series are the best modelers out there for the tones I like (Vox, Blackface.) However, I went with a Roland Cube over the Vox because of reliability issues. Of all the amps I plug into at music stores, I have experienced more defective Vox AD amps than anything else. Plenty of stories referencing reliability issues, but you might get lucky.

I use a VOX AD series amp at our local rehearsal room. They're great amps, and I love the ones I've used, but the tech guys there complain of some reliability/build issues, particularly the input jacks falling out/in. That said, they're probably in use from 8am til 10pm 5 or 6 days a week and not everyone treats loan kit the same way they treat their own...

If I didn't have a decent amp already, and/or had the space, there'd be one right here right now.

I bought one of these bad boyz to play while at the cabin, beach or wherever. Easy to transport and can be used with 6 "c" cell batteries if at the beach.
5 watts with switch for 2 watt and 1/2 watt.

This is after I pimped it out.

The AD30VT is a nice amp but the bass is very woofy and undefined. I replaced the stock speaker with a MOD 10 which made a huge improvement. I upgraded the 12AX7 to a Tung-Sol which made another huge improvement and then I pimped the amp.

I switched to a Roland Micro Cube RX after going through 2 Vox AD amps in 4 months. I liked the Vox amps out of the box but had to send them both back.

+ 1 on the Roland Micro Cube.

Cheap yet reliable, has a nice range of good sounding amp models and the little sucker is louder than it looks. Take it with you to the beach or camping and you get 10 - 15 hours on batteries.

One heck of a little amp.

Carr Mercury .... pricy for "just a practice amp", but good for much more. With the built in power attenuator I can practice/record all night an not wake my wife or our neighbors.

Precisely.....

Or if ya wanna rock...use headphones.

The only input that is missing from the ADxxVT series is a CD in so you can practice to music.
The DA5 has that and most of the modeling too.

practice like in your room or with a band? I use my little bullet reverb in my room...sounds great and even has decent fuzz and real spring reverb(not tube driven of course). I'd like to get a sf champ though.

Yep, all sorts of sounds plus a headphone out. I've got a Princeton but I use the Microcube way more. And it can get as loud as I care to go while at home.
