Yeah Man - the first time for me was with a Guild T-100 with a "patented" instead of the Franz. It was at Harper's Ferry in Alston. Necks were snapping and I remember some gorgeous little thing running out and buying an ES-175T
next door at Mr.Music to get that tone - pissed me off too - I had my eye on that ES-175T.
But it was the Super Reverb and a totally hollow thinline combination.
Even the bouncer came up to me and said "geez stan you didn't suck tonight".

Here guys, allow me....

(affecting whiny waitress voice) "Gee guys you're WAY too loud! Can you turn down please?".

Now what?

My Super sounds good clean. My Twin sounds REAL good clean. My Super sounds REAL good pushed just past breakup(semi-dirty? dusty? musty?). Different flavors, all good.

Yep Trag - when You're right You're right.
I think even my 5E7'd drive that waitress bonkers.
Best to mic up the Deluxes and let The Soundman work his Art.

A quick aside but noteworthy - when You go into The Go-Go Bar and all the old guys are head-bangin' to The Beat as the jeunne filles are a dancin' and a prancin'....how come it ain't too loud then?
hmmm...
