Tele tone thru a Marshall....
I don't see any of this talked about here, so just wondering if anybody here has played around with plugging their Tele into some old Marshalls and turn up the volume? Like '72 and earlier amps.

1974X Marshalls (18 watters) are great with Teles.
Old '70s Marshalls are great too. I even like JCM800s and even DSL100s with Teles.

A Tele into a Marshall 18-watt amp is astonishingly good. I like mine plugged into the trem channel high input with the volume between 5 and 6, where it's just starting to break up. I also have a 50-watt RI head and a '97 Bluesbreaker Ltd. that are excellent with a Tele. Simple circuits are the best, IMO, because they don't homogenize the sound of different models of guitars, ore even mask differences between similar guitars. Contrary to what most people would think, a Tele/Marshall setup can be amazing for country tones (and not just the sorta-country Keith Urban ones) with a Tele.

Glad to see some of you have discovered this combination.
My primary tool is this April '69 50W JMP thru an early '70s checkerboard 4x12. I also set it up just on the edge, around 6 or 7 and then use a boost pedal to put it over. yeeeeee-haaaaaaw! ![]() |

I know this goes against what you said, but I loved playing Tele's through a '79 JMP through a 4x12 Celestion Cab. Some of the greatest tone I ever had. And let me add. I'm mostly a Rockabilly player.

i rock most through my jcm900... overdrive channel on 8 of 20 and clean channel on 5 of 10 for some dirt...
also the vox ad30 with some dirt. sometimes go high gain on the marshall and clean as a whistle on the vox at the same time... such a good rock tone! can you still find these 18 watt marshalls at good prices? are the new 18 watt crates as similar as the 18 watt marshalls that the guys at the local guitar center tell me they are? |

I use a JTM45 clone (Weber kit) as my main amp with my Tele - however, I rarely turn it up above 10 o'clock, as I use it for its great, warm, lush, full CLEAN tone...

Elliot Where Are You?
I have a KT66 Bluesbreaker combo w/Blues in it that Don Butler fixed up for me. Sounds great with a 52RI. I don't usually care for Tubescreamers, but they seem to match this kit rather well.Used to have a metal panel Super Loud that really suited a tele as well, especially with a fuzzface.
Seems like I've seen another forum member absolutely wearing out a tele/Marshall setup more than once. It doesn't get any better. SHAKE IT UP! |
