'53 Fender Deluxe on ebay... a bargain?

OK, same seller as the guy that's selling that bogus cabinet '49 Pro...

http://cgi.ebay.com/1953-FENDER-DELU...QQcmdZViewItem

Unlike the Pro, this one seems like a normal auction with no real issues on the amp or its description... other than a replaced speaker and replaced handle.

I first saw it a couple days ago when the Pro thread started... and now there's been no bids for three days. I am wondering will this thing go for near this low? Or do bids die off until the last five minutes of the auction?

I am thinking, sheesh, if this one goes at or near this price, I'm gonna hang onto mine for now. Maybe it's economy jitters / wait out till after the election time.

Thoughts? I'll be checking this one on the 4th, after the ribs, and before the boom booms

Watch the price when the sniping starts.

That $1050 is nowhere near what it will take to win this auction, imho.
As 6X47 says...the last few mintues will usually tell the tale. There is already fair interest expressed.

Bizarre - a '53 that's got original caps (meaning it is either going to be a closet queen or need a cap job to be safely playable) and fouling it with a so-called reissue Jensen makes NO sense. It makes me REAL leery.

Any "Vintage" dealer who uses a reissue Jensen in a "restoration" is suspect, considering Jensen isn't the same Jensen of the 50's (it's an Italian company) and the speakers don't even have the same specs as their namesakes - I got a pair of P10Q's that were so heavily doped you could have glued together a coffee table with it! The bought the company name, the speaker names - but the resulting products are simply something completely different.

Agreed.

This seller just reeks of "shady" to me. Of course, YMMV...

Not to defend the seller, but I just put a Weber into my tweed Deluxe... when I bought it in ? '84 or so, it had a replacement Jensen in it, with an odd thing: a 2" long, 1/4" dia. machine screw sticking straight out the ceramic magnet. For what?? as a hangar for cords? I dunno. Anyways, while the speaker is plenty old, it never sounded all that great to me, so I went with a Weber.

Just pointing out that when it comes to 50+ y.o. amps, odd things happen, and sometimes they happened way in the past. But yeah; in this case, not the best speaker choice...

BTW the auction is up over $1400, so my faith in humanity is somewhat restored
