Help Narrow Down Fender Amp Choices!

I have narrowed my amp search down to a Fendar tube Amp. The Twin is just too loud to use in my home ( I do not play live ). I have a budget of $ 1,000.00 for just the amp. I play ( or attempt some days ) a ton of different music ( Stones to AC/DC to Dick Dale). The only guitars I will be running thru this amp will be Teles and a G & L Legacy. I guess I need a jack of all trades amp. A single speaker is fine as long as it can get decently loud without breaking up. The catch is I want to buy this amp tomorrow ( then I have 3 days to noodle for the 4th ) ( instant gratification is American ). Guitar Center has all the main line Fenders in stock. I played thru the DRRI & Hot Rod Deluxe yesterday with a Tele and both sounded pretty good ( I only had time to try out the two ). Are there any other Fenders I should try before buying? Please help me spend my money and fuel the economy!

OF the two you mentioned for themusic you play, I would have to have the DRRI for the Dick Dale thing. The HRD doesn't have tube reverb...which is a must have for surf, imo. You would have to go to pedals for the overdrive sounds. T he new Prineton Reverb RI might suit you at lower power.

Im interested in the Princeton Reverb..but have not tried it yet...But the DRRI I can vouch for...a great amp. Little louder than you might think..

I think if you want a brand new amp... get the princeton.

if you are willing to go used... find a silver face princeton or deluxe.

My vote is for a DRRI - have had both the blues deluxe and hot rod deville - the DRRI at 4 and above is way better than the other two - at least to my ears

From the sound clips and demos' I have heard...The New Princeton is the way to go.Check out a SuperSonic if one is there....I really liked the one I played through with humbuckers and singles.

I like the DRRI a lot -- but $950 is overpriced. It was a good deal when it was $800 a couple years ago. You can find them for $600 used.

Check out the Custom Vibrolux Reverb. More of a rock/blues amp because it breaks up very early. The 10s are nice and punchy. Some have complained about a hiss with this amp, so pay attention for that if you test-drive it.

PRRI is $900 which leaves $100 for beer!

Sounds like a good way to spend the 4th.

Not than I'm an expert, but mixing HURRY and AMP will yield the same results as mixing fire and gasoline! Boom!

Take you time, play each one and see which best suits your musical style and tonal requirements.

Nobody has mentioned the SCXD, but I have one, and BillM has two of them! I love mine. It's a great little notemaker with plenty of versatility.

For more $$$, I would suggest the DRRI or the Princeton Recording, then the BJr or the PJr (stay away from the other Hot Rod Series amps).

Good luck!

Well I pulled the trigger and bought the DRRI. I played the Princeton Reverb and then the DRRI on a 52' reissue Tele for about 30 minutes each. I was torn between the two. ?They were both great amps. I think I chose the DRRI because it gives me the means to play with others if I ever get good enough and it has been out for a while and seems to be well regarded by most folks who have it. One thing is for sure, I will never go back to playing a solid state amp again. Even for my novice ears, the difference in sound is night and day. Thanks for all the input, it really helped!

I think you made the right decision.

The DRRI is probably the more versatile of the 2 amps as it's plenty loud enough to use in a band situation and still gives great tone at lower volumes at home. The PRRI would struggle to keep up with a band in my opinion.
