I played a 1970 champ today

And damn it was amazing. I'm going to be putting my crappy champ on Ebay and going back to this place to buy that one. I mean holy crap what a sound. Maybe put a new speaker in it and it will be the best damn practice/recording amp ever.

They're pretty good, but man cannot live on one amp alone. hehe

What's wrong with your current Champ?

The tubes ring in some manner of harmony with the speaker. And I have peavey valveking 50 for stage so the champ is purely for recording.

And man did my vk cook tonight.

So maybe you have a microphonic preamp tube in your amp? Is this a new Champion you're talking about?
