4 ohm speaker ok in a 5F2A Princeton?

All the Princeton kits I've seen come w/ an 8 ohm speaker, like mine. Can a 4 ohm speaker be used w/ this type of amp without any ill effects? Will there be any difference in sound from an 8 ohm version of the same speaker type?

Which OT is yours using?

Many kit makers use multi-tapped OT's. If so, you can use the 4 ohm tap and just wire it to another output jack.

only one speaker out, don't want to do any wiring, etc. just want to know if a 4 ohm would work in my amp which is set up for an 8 ohm speaker.

It should be safe, it just won't be optimal.

As was mentioned, it will be safe but won't sound great. The amp you have
will have an O/T for an 8ohm load. The Original Tweed Princetons were
4 ohm. Modern Clones should have a Multi Tap O/T 4ohm / 8 ohm as was
also mentioned.

So you can use a 4 ohm speaker, but it won't sound as dynamic or good.

This is a 4ohm Triad O/T from a Tweed Princeton

So the P/T on my modern version of the 5F2A would have a multi tap, but not necessarily have two separate ohm jacks (4 and 8)? I figure if there's any soldering/wiring around the P/T, then I'd be better off just tracking down an 8 ohm speaker.

thanks, guys!

If your new kit specifies 8 ohms, best to stick with that. You could check with the manufacturer to see if they will substitute a 4 ohm OT, but I agree that 8 ohms is a better and more universal choice for a single speaker amp.
