I'm now a Celestion Blues owner
I just ordered an Avatar 2x12" cab loaded with Celestion AlNiCo Blues.
It is going to go perfectly with my Vox AC30 rebuild. I'm too busy to build a 2x12" cab right now, and Avatar cabs are great looking and inexpensive! Photos and soundlips when my rebuild is done and the cab gets here. I've wanted Celestion Blues forever! I am excited :)

Cool! I was going to shell out the cash for one when I built my (5E3) Clone but my favorite local store didn't have one in stock at the time. Since they had a Weber Alnico Blue Dog I went for the instant gratification.
I've always wondered how the Celestion or a Tone Tubby would compare. |

Perhaps the finest speaker ever made? It gets my vote. I also have an AVATAR 2x12 with a V30 and a G12H...sounds great with any amp, Brit or American. But when I switched out the V30 with a blue? OMG!!
I had Don Butler do the Beano treatment to my BBRI...Sounded real good with the stock Greenbacks. Threw in a couple Blues and it's 5 times the amp (maybe 6, my math's a little weak). There is bad news...I can't make one fit in my Blues Jr. May be time for a new cab... |

I went with Avatar for a 2x12" V30 cab a long long time ago. Still use it as my main gigging cab (though I haven't gigged in a long long time HAHA).
I can't wait to hear the Blues with a Vox clone pushing them...

I've got too many amps to cover the punk/metal sound :) I've been really digging my 6L6 modded BF Princeton build lately, and I've been listening to a lot of Tom Petty... the 36w is just not being used much - I could really use that old school Vox/Blue chime. I can't wait! I'm so excited!!!

IMHO, the Celestion Blues are as expensive as hell, but worth it. The saying "you have to pay to play" really holds true a lot of times with guitar gear.
The same holds true for the new OT I put in my old 5E5A build. I recently installed an expensive OT (no, not Mercury), along with a couple of other tweaks, and that amp sounds like God on a good day. I was very pleased with the 4 ohm version on my Mini-Bassman (5F6A, 2 x 10") and this lead me to finally breaking down and trying the 8 ohm version in this Pro. Unfortunately, these transformers, like the Celestion Blues, are a little too expensive to use in every build, but they are nice. You're going to dig on those speakers Johnny. |

I'm guessing the Blue will compress a bit more. The P12Q is rated for 35 watts, the Blue for 15 watts.
AlNiCo speakers compress when driven hard. It should have a thicker, creamier top end when cranked. By the way, here's some updated photos of my new Vox AC30/15 and 2x12" Blue rig: ![]()

Johnny. We all know how truly modest you are about your amp building skills and all, but man, that is one nice looking rig.
You da man!

Nope, I'm still using it. I have two tracks that'll need a mandolin in the near future.

How much did the cab cost? I bought the Dr Z 2X12 with Celestion blues and I was just wondering a price comparison.
