Oh, Noes! I Got teh Cabinet Rattle!

Internet speak intentional for humor.

It seems one of my Peavey Classic 412es cabs has developed a center post rattle problem. I discovered it playing one of my Bravos through it cranking the Clean channel with my P90/PRE-B1 equipped Tele. My other cab doesn't do it, even with my VTM 60, which has a bit more than twice the power.

Will it hurt anything to drive a screw through the back into the center post? I'm sure there is a reason why the leave the center post floating in there, but it seems to me it would be a lot less prone to rattle if it was screwed solid.

I won't do it if it will cause a problem with tone, but I want the rattle gone. I've never had this problem with any other 412, even a really, really cheaply built Crate.

I don't see anything wrong with the idea. Other famous speaker-cabinet makers have attached the posts with screws to make sure they do their job.

Surely the whole thing being more solid can only enhance tone and improve any vibration transmitting qualities?

Mmm, Ive come over all pseudo-scientific, but I think I knew what I meant.

That's what I was thinking, but every cab manufacturer, be it Peavey or Marshall or whomever, makes their 412 cabs without that extra screw. There has to be some reason. I don't think it's an economic decision. Not every cab that comes off the line has this kind of problem, but I've heard of the same problem happening to just about all brands.
