Peavey Blues Classic

So a guy had one of these for sale, I went and checked it out. Cosmetically it looks like a Fender Bassman combo, but it's actually pretty much a Peavey Classic 30 in a big cabinet, with a 15 inch speaker. And I believe it's 50 watts.

Anyway it seems very quiet to me. Especially the "lead" channel. It's only about as loud as my Traynor YCV20. I've played PV Classic 30s in the store, and they seemed to have quite a bit more swat than this thing does. Voicing those concerns to the seller, I got it for a song.

Anyway, I'm wondering if the lack of output is maybe that it needs new tubes? It takes 4 EL84s and 3 12AX7s. The guy told me he'd just changed the ELs in it.

Any advice appreciated!

nevermind

I just incorrectly replied indicating you must have a Delta Blues... but I'm just a dope who didn't look before I responded. Sorry!

JimL yeah, when I was reading the seller's craigslist description, I was thinking it must be a Delta Blues, also. I didn't know these "Blues Classics" existed before last Friday.

I had a peavey classic 50 4x10 and it was the best sounding amp I've played through and right now I'm looking to go back to peavey I would recommend them any day of the week.

A Blues Classic is a Classic 50 in a bigger cab with 1 15" speaker. It should be at least as loud as a Classic 30. I wonder if someone stuck in a 12AY7 in one of the preamp slots. Is the speaker stock? I'd also think about new ELs. Just because he said he just changed them doesn't mean he did.

Anyhow, nice score!

I had one of these when they first came out. Peavey only made these for year or two, probably early-mid 90's. Great amp. Same size cab as the 4x10. This amp was loud. This is just the Classic 50 with a 15" speaker. I have also had a Delta Blues and this amp is louder.
