Gigging with a Princeton Reverb. What's the verdict? - Page 2

I think most of the best points have been made so I'll just share my experience.

The first amp I ever had was a BFPR and it served me well for a while along with a MIJ '50s Telecaster'. Then I went down another path and started playing a Les Paul through the loudest amps I could get my hands on. Twins, Hot Rod Devilles, Sunn bass amps (200S), etc. Then one day I realized that I was really loud but my tone left a lot to be desired. Now, I'm back where I started...Telecaster (this time, a custom Warmoth tele) and a Princeton (BF & SF). Most of the gigs I play are outdoor or large affairs where even a Twin wouldn't get me too far so volume is kind of a moot point. I'm currently running my BFPR and SFPR in tandem with a Peavey Classic 50 to supplement stage volume, but a single PR would work. In fact, not too long ago I played a gig after changing power tubes in my BF. I noticed the tone I was getting was very warm, crunchy, but exceedingly good nonetheless. After the gig was over, I discovered that one of my new tubes had burned out sometime during soundcheck! So, in some venues, half of a Princeton might work for you!

I recently saw a Tom Petty Concert on HDTV and Mike Campbell was playing through miked Princetons. Sounded great.

I played mine on Friday night with a 4-piece band, had the volume and tone maxed on the amp, stuck an ampwedge under it to get the sound up a bit, and controlled everything from the guitar and it was plenty loud. I only maxed the guitar volume on a couple of solo's to get some hair. Admittedly, it was the first time I've used it with the band (just bought it last week) but it was great. I would say it should be fine for small to medium venues. And it sure is easy to carry.
