Belt Amps? Advice needed...

Hey guys.

I've heard a lot about belt amps. I was wondering what the general cost is of these, and if it matters which type of guitar you have.

I have a Fender Telecaster Vintage Hot Rod '52.

Thanks in advance...

The only "Belt Amp" I could find online was the Danelectro Honeytone E-Studio Belt Amplifier. Not even sure those are made any more (as they don't show up on the Danelectro website). Just google (or ask or search engine of choice) "belt amp" and you can find pricing of what is available.

I remember seeing a couple of these Danelectro's a couple of years ago. I guess they can be cool in a sort of low-fi junky sort of way. To me they were sort of a bigger Smokey amp. I have several smokeys, and they can be a hoot for about an hour. But after that amount of time, the fact it is just another fuzz box, just tied to a speaker, starts to grate on my nerves. Of course the Smokey makes you learn how to use your guitar's volume and tone controls (since there is no other control on those parameters). With the Honeytone, it sort of tries to be an amp...

But if that descrition floats your boat, hey it's only about $20. If you can afford a 52 VHR, you can drop the $20 just to find out if you have a use for it.

Like Scooter sez, those little boxes get annoying after awhile.

I recommend the Roland Microcube, which has guitar strap pins on it so you can hang it from your shoulder while playing if need be. It sounds decent and is battery powered if desired. (6 AA batteries, I think).

They're okay if you just want something that makes sound when you plug a guitar into it.....but don't expect it to sound anything like what could be called "good".

+1 to the above recommendation on the Roland Micro Cube.
