My first Cabinet Build, and my Lil Dawg 35 watt Chassis

Hey all well here it is my first ever attempt at amp cabinet building. The chassis is a 35 watt Lil Dawg D'lux take on a 5E3 circuit. Check out those beefy transformers. I ordered some Tweed Cloth but I think I am gonna hold off for now and just enjoy it a bit.

How thick are those front baffle cleats?

I built my own 5E3 cab too and was noticing how some guys like Neil Young had to put in more baffle screws over the years. So I decided to go with 3/4" thick cleats on my build (as well as a slightly more angled baffle and deeper cab).

Very cool cab build!

I've never really been interested in a 35w since I have several amps in that wattage, but a 35w 5E3 might be the best amp if I had to only have one for good :)

Your amp is gorgeous!

Great job, leave the wood uncovered, stain and clear coat!

Nice cab, I want to do that myself one day. How did you come up with dimensions & a plan?

Thanks guys.

Some answers:
The entire cab is made from 3/4" premium select pine. I used 1/2" bow joints, and all the screws are #10-32. To attach the baffle, I used 2" 10-32 with dome screws, t-nuts on baffle, and a lock nut for security reasons.

As for the dimensions, I wanted a bigger cabinet just incase I wanted to try different speaker combos, like 1X15", or 2X10". I took the original specs of 20w X 18h X 9d and added 2" all around. I also wanted a roomier cab do to the increased power of the chassis.

Part of me wants to put a light amber stain, and lacquer it, but who knows. But have any of you guys seen the sunburst Blues Junior? That would be a really cool to do.

To Johnny: At 35 watts, this amp almost covers everything for me. At volume 2 this thing is almost at full volume and jangly clean, at 3ish it starts breaking up. I have a 68 Twin, and this is almost as loud. It will not due Twin clean, but it does things that the Twin cant. Right now its my main amp for everything.

Joints?

Can fingerjoints be done without a table saw?

Awesome job, BTW

You can do them with a handsaw, jigsaw or a router, just takes a little longer.

Find a really dark stain that will still allow the woodgrain to come through. It looks GREAT!

Heres mine which is a Lil Dawg 25 Watter with a pretyy well-tilted baffle. This amps does loud and clean too with the C12N in it and could get even cleaner with a different speaker and mine is about like a Delux Reverb in loudness. Went real deep with my cab and it nmakes it even louder in my opinion and this cab is damn resonant too -almost adds reverb-LOL But I love it. I used Varathan oil finish with a clear coat of Poly for toughness and shine. It all Honduran Mahogany except the baffle is finish quality birch and totals3/4" thick the marks on the side are just shadows cast by the amp next to it.

That is very cool Ibobunot.

I would also oil/clear coat versus tweed. Its can more easily be repaired and isn't tweed like everything else seems to be. Bring out the beauty of that pine - why cover up such nice work and finger joints?

The front valence set up on Ibobunot's cab is a much better setup. Its the same way I build them. You get a lot more glue surface and your not dealing with an endgrain glue joint.
