Mission 5E3 Kit...
I just ordered a 5E3 kit from Mission Amps. Am excited to get into something a few steps up from guitar wiring... I also ordered a Jensen P12Q Speaker and a cab from Better built Workshops... (not tweed though...!! Covered in Brown Tolex with wheat colored grill cloth, gonna have cream chicken head knobs on it too...)
Cool... Let's see what sort of a mess I can get into with this... (?) I can't wait...! Cheers!

Keep us posted - that tolex grill and knob combo should be sweet looking.
I have been tempted by the Mission 5e3 kit for a while now. (I checked out that Better Built Workshops website - very nice looking stuff - and the prices seem good for the quailty - a good find.) |

Bruce's kit is excellent...
that 5E3 was my 1st-ever build, great components and tech support, and I still like it completely stock as per the original kit.

This is going to be a fun thread to watch!!! If you run into trouble or have dumb questions, you can PM or eMail me - I am the king of dumb questions and dumber mistakes :) A 5E3 will keep the addiction down as it covers so many sounds and the tone is tasty at all volumes, guitars, and styles. I can't wait to hear your build progress!!! PS I am planning another NYC trip next year - I hope to make it up to you with a few drinks... and maybe a gift (do you like 5 watt tube amps with 10" speakers? hehehe) |

Just let me know when you're coming back to NYC and we'll definitely get together this time!! We'll have to have a few too many drinks and then see what happens... Venue of my choosing though OK...?? 5 Watts... 10" Speakers... Holy Moly... Of course I like the sound of that... Wow! We might have to do a trade though...? We'll work something out... Cheers man!!

I have a Mission 5E3 and can guarantee that you will love the final product! We are pretty similar in gear I have been noticing through the years (homebuild black tele, 78 SFDR and now a 5E3). Good company keeps good taste! Now go get yourself a Brown Princeton.....

Mission Amps is a great choice for a 5E3 kit. That was my first build and it was up-and-running from the first power-up. Unfortunately I was lazy and didn't finish the cab for almost three years.
If you have a question that you reckon is too stupid to ask JC Go get 'em!

love mine too- i popped for the weber blue speaker and the merc tranny
lead dress will really help in reducing noise too these are super with a tele-like a match made in heaven (unless of course you have an el 84 amp) -and not bad with a les paul-theres the paulc mod for slightly reducing bottom fart with humbuckers-can be controlled with a toggle and they are so nice to carry great great amps

Let me put it to you this way: I am a complete idiot and I've built several amps. The scariest part is actually jumping in and doing it. After that it is the "dumb" questions, not knowing basic stuff, and being afraid to ask. Ask away. After a few builds you'll know a ton of stuff, after a few more, you'll know a ton more. After a few builds you'll be a regular old cork sniffer, then a few more and you'll realize there's no reason for snobbery. Some folks are snobs with only 2 amps, so expanding your horizons a HUGE amount sorta makes you humble and slightly less opinionated (though I'm still an opinionated jerk, but I'm trying not to be). |

im an idiot too-all i knew how to do was solder and mine fired up right off the mark-the comment about just jump in is really on the mark-its reall just like paint by numbers -look at the pics and assmeble the components
ihad a great sense of accomplishment and pride when i finished mine-and followed up with a great over coat on the tweed cab too-

You being such an exceptional photographer , I expect a step by step photo essay on your build . Just kidding , but a lot of photos would be nice for the rest of us who haven't built an amp but would like to.

Ok, I'm convinced I can do it
When I shop for a kit, anything particular I need to be aware of? Any mods of interest? People here seem to like the Mission Amps kit, are there any other players in the market? BTW, searching for '5e3' on this forum does not give any results ![]() Thx |

5E3 searches
Change your search string to "tweed deluxe" or use the Google search option on "5E3". I think the main search engine won't hit on any string less than 4 characters. If you use the Google option, you'll want to add other terms, since there'll be many, many hits.

I took step-by-step photos of my build. It wasn't from a kit, and the Chassis was a Mojo repro and the trannies were Hammond OEM repros:
http://www.tdpri.com/forum/amp-centr...ml#post1150492 And a cab build I forgot to post build photos of... but here is the finished (uncovered) product: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/amp-centr...ml#post1205939 |
