Speaker Help!
Hey I am the one who has a weird speaker in his 5E3. Well, as an experiment this AM I connected up the speaker that is labeled G12-80 Red Back to my 5E3 it is the proper 8 Ohm Config and is the speaker that comes with my Masters TVA30 watt amp which is a 4xEL84 amp that is very good.
Wow is all I can say - I really need to get wahtever that speaker is or as close as possible. Since it is made by someone else for Masters Amplification, I don't know who makes it, but thought some of you might by the nomenclature/Red Back name. |

I think it maybe a Weber High Power Texas 12 or similar rated at 80 watts and definitley ceramic. It sounds real good though and that maybe due to it being pretty efficient. Real sensitive finger touch sounds and not as much early break up. May have found the secret in wringing out the best of the ol tweed girl.
May pull it out an put it in the tweed, call Masters and order another replacement for the TVA30 as I use the 5E3 way more. It sure isn't a celestion or Jensen that I know - who does that leave that would private label for someone? |

Well I did it - I yanked the G12-80 Red Back out of the TVA30 and put it in the 5E3. Pretty sure the speaker is as I mentioned above,,,,,,something like a high power Weber Texas 12 ceramic. Its an 8 ohm 80 watt speaker real touch sensitive and typical 5E3 tones but seems like less early break up.
Could that be due to the speaker's efficiency? Sure love it. I haven't cranked it yet as my windows and door were open all day as we are experiencing an air-conditionless heat wave here in Seattle. Thats the one thing about living where the sun doesn't shine much, cuz when it duz, ain't no air! Muggy too. |
